#### Minister's Decisions under Customs Duties Act.

Customs Department, Wellington, 4th June, 1919.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Hon. the Minister of Customs has decided to interpret the Customs Duties Act in relation to the undermentioned articles as follows:

NOTE.—“Not otherwise enumerated” appears as n.o.e.; “other kinds” as o.k.; “articles and materials suited only for, and to be used solely in, the fabrication of goods in the Dominion” as a. & m.s. Articles marked thus † are revised decisions.

#### Notice to Mariners.—No. 27 of 1919.

THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Hydrographic Office, London, and the Hydrographic Office, Washington, are published for general information.

##### BRITISH ISLANDS.

###### INFORMATION WITH REGARD TO EXTINCTION OF LIGHTS AND DISCONTINUANCE OR REMOVAL OF AIDS TO NAVIGATION.

Former Notice.—No. 364 of 1918; hereby cancelled.

(1.) All lights on the coasts of the British Islands are being re-exhibited and the usual fog-signals sounded, with the following exceptions:

HartlepooI Old Pier light; Fidra Island light, Firth of Forth; Cairnbulg Briggs light is exhibited, but is unreliable; the fog-signal at Cairnbulg Briggs is not working.

The submarine fog-bell situated at a distance of about 6 cables northward from South Stack Lighthouse has been temporarily discontinued.

(2.) The Otter Rock Light-vessel on the south coast of Islay has been replaced in position, and the light-buoy with group flashing white light, temporarily marking the station, has been withdrawn.

(3.) The Runnelstone light-and-whistle buoy has been temporarily replaced by a can buoy painted in black and white vertical stripes.

Note.—This notice is a revision of the former notice quoted above.

##### ENGLAND.

###### SOUTH-EAST COAST.—DOVER STRAIT.

(1.) The Ridge (Le Colbart) Shoal.—Amended Description of Buoy.

Position.—Near the north-eastern end of The Ridge (Le Colbart) Shoal. Lat. 50° 56′ 12″ N., long. 1° 22′ 30″ E.

Details.—This buoy is a red conical unlighted buoy, and not a light-buoy with flashing red light as shown on some copies of the charts.

(2.) The Varne Shoal.—Buoy withdrawn.

Position.—Near the north-eastern end of the Varne Shoal. Lat. 51° 0½′ N., long. 1° 22½′ E.

Description.—A red can buoy.

Note.—This buoy is to be expunged from the charts.

(3.) Dungeness East Road.—Buoy withdrawn.

Position.—Eastward of Swallow Bank, and at a distance of about 3½ miles north-eastward from Dungeness Low Lighthouse. Lat. 50° 57½′ N., long. 1° 1¼′ E.

Description.—A mooring-buoy.

Note.—This buoy is to be expunged from the charts.

###### SOUTH-EAST COAST.—DOVER CHANNEL.—ALTERATIONS IN AIDS TO NAVIGATION.

(1.) Alteration in position of St. Cecilia Light-vessel:

New Position.—At a distance of about 2½ miles south-eastward from former position. Lat. 50° 58′ 30″ N., long. 1° 13′ E.

Description.—A light-vessel exhibiting a flashing red light.

(2.) Alteration in position of Anglia Light-vessel:

New Position.—At a distance of about 1½ miles south-eastward from former position. Lat. 51° 3′ 15″ N., long. 1° 20′ E.

Description.—A light-vessel exhibiting a flashing white light.

(3.) Alteration in light on light-buoy (4):

Position.—Lat. 51° 5′ N., long. 1° 27′ E.

Alteration.—The occulting white light on this light-buoy has been replaced by a group flashing white light showing two flashes every ten seconds.

###### ENGLISH CHANNEL.—LIZARD HEAD.—DERELICT REPORTED SOUTHWARD OF.

Date sighted.—On the 2nd March, 1919.

Position.—Lat. 49° 38′ N., long. 5° 4′ W.

Description.—Derelict vessel, with hull submerged, and stump of mast showing about 6 ft. above water.
