THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the New Plymouth Harbour Board, is published in accordance with section 17 of the New Plymouth Harbour Board Empowering Act, 1918.

NEW PLYMOUTH HARBOUR BOARD.

Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise Loan.

PURSUANT to section 17 of the New Plymouth Harbour Board Empowering Act, 1918, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers within the harbour district, as defined by section 3 of the said Act, was taken on the 30th day of April, 1919, on a proposal to borrow from time to time such sum or sums of money as the New Plymouth Harbour Board deems fit, but not exceeding £300,000, for the following purposes:—

To construct such works as are defined by the word “harbour-works” as interpreted by subsection (1) of section two of the Harbours Amendment Act, 1910, and also in the purchase, erection, and construction of all such tugs, dredges, cranes, sheds, and works for the improvement of the New Plymouth Harbour as are deemed necessary and proper by the Board for the purpose of the construction of such harbour-works, and for the safety, convenience, or reception of vessels resorting to the said harbour, and for the more convenient loading and unloading of such vessels, and for the safety and protection of any works constructed by the Board.

The number of valid votes recorded for the proposal in the areas described in the Second and Third Schedules to the New Plymouth Harbour Board Empowering Act, 1908, was 3,262, and the number of valid votes recorded against the proposal in the said area was 161.

The number of valid votes recorded for the proposal in the area described in the First Schedule to the New Plymouth Harbour Board Empowering Act, 1918, was 1,466, and the number of valid votes recorded against the proposal in the said area was 157.

As the total number of valid votes recorded in the areas described in the said Second and Third Schedules in favour of the proposal exceeds the total number of valid votes recorded in those areas against the proposal, and as the total number of valid votes recorded in the area described in the said First Schedule in favour of the proposal exceeds the total number of valid votes recorded in that area against the proposal, I therefore, in pursuance of section 14 of the New Plymouth Harbour Board Empowering Act, 1918, declare the proposal to be carried.

WAITOTARA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Tokomaru West Road Special Rating District was taken on the 30th day of April, 1919, on the proposal of the Waitotara County Council to borrow the sum of £1,150 for the purpose of metalling 98 chains of the Tokomaru West Road.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 12, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 0.

I therefore declare the proposal was carried.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Invercargill, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

I HEREBY give notice that on the 30th day of April, 1919, a poll was taken upon a proposal of the Invercargill Borough Council to raise a special loan of £35,100 for and in connection with additions and improvements to the electric light and power works of the Borough of Invercargill, including the acquiring, constructing, and erecting of machinery, plant, buildings, and works as in the said proposal set out, and that the number of votes recorded for and against the proposal was: For the proposal, 1,518; against the proposal, 532; informal, 54.

I therefore declare the proposal to be carried.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Birkenhead, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

BOROUGH OF BIRKENHEAD.

Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of ratepayers of the Borough of Birkenhead taken on the 30th day of April, 1919, on the proposal of the Birkenhead Borough Council to borrow the sum of £15,000 for street improvements in the Borough of Birkenhead, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 273, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 200; informal, 27.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Northcote taken on the 30th day of April, 1919, on the following proposals of the Northcote Borough Council to borrow the sum of £6,000 for the purposes hereafter stated, the voting was as follows:—

  1. Proposal to borrow the sum of £3,000 for building a sea wall at the Northcote Wharf approach: The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 60, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 199.
