Opening Lands in Nelson Land District for Selection by Discharged Soldiers on Renewable Lease.
LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto, which have been set apart for selection by discharged soldiers, shall be open for selection by discharged soldiers on renewable lease on Wednesday, the nineteenth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and section one hundred and thirty-five of the Land Act, 1908, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metal, mineral, or valuable stone.
SCHEDULE.
NELSON LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Murchison County.—Maruia Survey District.—Westland Mining District.
SECTION 1, Block VII: Area, 1,375 acres; capital value, £830; half-yearly rent, £16 12s.
Weighted with £125, valuation for about 100 acres bush felled, burnt, and sown in grass, but owing to neglect is now to a great extent covered in fern.
Soil of fair quality, on sandstone and granite formation; well watered by permanent streams. A fair amount of low undulating spurs and flat land, covered with forest, principally birch and mixed timber, with usual underscrub. Situated at the head of Glengarry Stream, about sixteen miles from Murchison and eight miles from the junction of the Maruia and Buller Rivers. Good formed road to the junction of the Glengarry and Maruia Rivers, thence by partly formed road. Altitude, 650 ft. to 2,000 ft.
Buller County.—Kawatiri Survey District.—Karama Mining District.
Section 16, Block V: Area, 15 acres; capital value, £30; half-yearly rent, 12s.
All flat; about 3 acres fronting the coast has been cleared and grassed, but is now covered with fern, blackberry, and gorse; remainder birch bush, subject to floods from creek. About six miles from Westport by sea-beach.

Lands permanently reserved.
LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.
WHEREAS by the three-hundred-and-twenty-first section of the Land Act, 1908, it is enacted that the Governor-General may from time to time, either by general or particular description, and whether the same has been surveyed or not, reserve from sale temporarily, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral license, any Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of the purposes in the said section mentioned:
And whereas by the three-hundred-and-twenty-second section of the said Act it is provided that land temporarily reserved under the said three-hundred-and-twenty-first section may, at the expiration of one month but not later than six months after the publication in the Gazette of notice of such temporary reservation, be permanently reserved, and that notice of such permanent reservation shall be published in the Gazette:
And whereas the lands specified in the first column of the Schedule hereto were, by the Warrants the dates of which are specified in the third column of the said Schedule, and the notifications of which were published in the Gazettes specified in the fourth column, temporarily reserved under the authority of the said Acts for the purposes specified in the second column of the said Schedule:
Now, therefore, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the said Acts, do hereby permanently reserve the lands so temporarily reserved as aforesaid, and enumerated in the first column of the Schedule hereto, for the purposes specified in the second column of the said Schedule, being the same purposes for which the said lands were so temporarily reserved as aforesaid.
