Result of Poll re Water and Electric Power Loan, £55,000.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers interested taken on Wednesday, the 30th day of April, 1919, on the proposal of the Whakatane Borough Council to borrow the sum of £55,000 for water-supply and electric-power scheme for the borough, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 104, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 147; the number of votes informal was 14.

I therefore declare that the proposal was lost.

Result of Poll re Surface Drainage Loan of £6,000.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers interested taken on Wednesday, the 30th April, 1919, on the proposal of the Whakatane Borough Council to borrow the sum of £6,000 for works in connection with surface drainage, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 123, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 130; the number of votes informal was 12.

I therefore declare that the proposal was lost.

WHAKATANE COUNTY COUNCIL.

Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Poroporo Special Rating Area was taken on Wednesday, 30th April, 1919, on the proposal of the Whakatane County Council to borrow the sum of £200 for part cost of the erection of the Poroporo Bridge, and constructing and metalling road approaches to said bridge.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 23, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 1.

I therefore declare the proposal carried.

Revoking Prohibition on certain Correspondence under War Regulations Act, 1914.

WHEREAS by notices dated the 3rd day of April and the 26th day of May, 1916, the Postmaster-General did order that no postal packet or telegram addressed to or intended for any of the persons, firms, or companies named in the Schedules thereto should be forwarded or delivered by the Post Office or transmitted by telegraph:

And whereas it is now considered advisable to revoke the said notices:

Now, therefore, I, William Donald Stuart MacDonald, the Acting Postmaster-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby, in pursuance of clause 3 of the War Regulations of the 17th day of December, 1914, made under the War Regulations Act, 1914, revoke the notices hereinbefore referred to.

Notification under the Coal-mines Act, 1908, and its Amendments.—Permitted Explosives.

Wellington, 7th May, 1919.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon me by Order in Council dated the 13th day of May, 1918, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 23rd day of the same month, I, William Donald Stuart MacDonald, the Minister of Mines for the Dominion of New Zealand, did, on the 24th day of June, 1918, approve of the explosive called ligdynite being deemed a “permitted explosive” during the period of the present war and for six months thereafter, subject to certain conditions set out in the Schedule to such approval; and, in further pursuance of the same powers, I hereby revoke condition No. 1 and substitute the following therefor:—

  1. Provided that the explosive shall be used only in mines in which naked lights are permitted to be used, and only when contained in a case of waxed paper thoroughly waterproofed with paraffin wax.

TENDERS will be received at the office of the Secretary to the Board, Post and Telegraph Stores, Wellington, not later than 4 p.m. on Thursday, the 5th June, 1919, for the supply and delivery at Tauranga, Whangarei, Mangapai or Opua, and Blenheim of cement, lime, drainpipes, bricks, &c., for the year ending 30th June, 1920.

TENDERS will be received at the office of the Secretary to the Board, Post and Telegraph Stores, Wellington, not later than 4 p.m. on Thursday, the 5th June, 1919, for the supply and delivery at Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Wellington, Gisborne, Wanganui, Napier, Stratford, New Plymouth, Nelson, Greymouth, and Invercargill of bricks cement, lime, drainpipes, oils, spirits, &c., required by the New Zealand Government for the period ending 30th June, 1920.

Forms and conditions of tender for all places except New Plymouth and Wellington may be obtained at the local offices of the Public Works Department; at New Plymouth the forms may be obtained at the chief post-office, and at Wellington at the office of the Secretary to the Board.
