THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Hydrographic Office, London, and the Hydrographic Office, Washington, are published for general information.

NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN.

SANDWICH ISLANDS, KAUAİ.

(1.) Hanapepe Bay.—Red Sector inserted in Light.

Position.—On the western entrance point of Hanapepe Bay. Lat. 21° 53′ N., long. 159° 36¼′ W.

New Abridged Description of Light.—Lt. occ., W.R.

Details.—A red sector, visible from 261° (S. 70° W. mag.) to 282 (N. 89° W. mag.), has been inserted in the above light to cover Kalanipuao Rock.

(2.) Kalanipuao Rock.—Whistle-buoy replaced by Buoy.

Position.—Marking Kalanipuao Rock. Lat. 21° 51½′ N., long. 159° 31½′ W.

Details.—The whistle-buoy formerly marking the above rock has been replaced by a red conical buoy numbered “2.”

Variation.—11° E.

JAPAN.

INFORMATION WITH REGARD TO SPEED TRIALS OF WARSHIPS AND OTHER VESSELS.

Warships and other vessels will display flag “A” of the International Code (white swallow-tailed flag with a blue fly) at the masthead or yardarm while undergoing speed trials in the localities given below; vessels are warned not to approach such vessels while the above-mentioned signal is flown.

(a.) Tokyo Bay entrance, between Kannon Saki and Suno Saki.

(b.) Izumi Nada, between Odari and Tsu dono Hana.

(c.) Hiroshima Bay, between Atada Shima and Shingoro Jima.

(d.) Southward of Nagasaki Harbour, between Kaba Shima and Hayami.

(e.) Nagasaki Harbour approach, off the coast of Miye Ura.

(f.) Maizuru Bay approach, between Kamuri Jima and Kyoga mi Saki.

(g.) Maizura Bay approach, between Kuro Saki and Musoga Hana.

AUSTRALIA.

EAST COAST.—QUEENSLAND.—LADY ELLIOT ISLAND.—REEF REPORTED SOUTH-EASTWARD OF.

Position.—At a distance of 5½ miles, 159° (S. 30° E. mag.), from Lady Elliot Island Lighthouse. Lat. 24° 12′ S., long. 152° 47¾′ E.

Depth.—5 fathoms.

Remarks.—The master of a steamer reports the existence of a coral reef in the above position, which extends over 200 ft. in a northerly and southerly direction.

Note.—The above depth is to be encircled by a danger line on the charts and marked “Reported (1918).”

Variation.—9° E.

INDIA.

WEST COAST.—BOMBAY APPROACH.—POSITION OF WRECK AND BUOY.

The wreck and buoy reported in (approximately) 18° 7′ 30″ N., 72° 42′ 0″ E., are located about 14·9 miles 238° from Rajpuri Point light.

Approx. position: 18° 8′ 43″ N., 72° 43′ 10″ E.

CHANGES IN ATLANTIC ENTRANCE BUOYS.

  1. Spar buoy No. 9, Colon Harbour, has been replaced by gas buoy No. 9, showing a fixed white light.

  2. Spar buoy No. 10, Colon Harbour, has been replaced by gas buoy No. 10, showing a fixed red light.
