Character of Light.—Acetylene gas occulting white, duration of light 2 seconds, eclipse 2 seconds.
Illuminated Arc.—The whole horizon.
Power.—150 candles.
Visible Distance.—11½ nautical miles in clear night.
The light being unwatched, should it go out by accident there may be some delay in relighting it.
N. COAST OF KYUSHU.—LIGHT TEMPORARILY EXTINGUISHED.
Notice is hereby given that Tsutsuzaki beacon light, on Ose, S. of Tsutsuzaki, S.W. end of Tsushima, is temporarily extinguished since the 6th of February, 1919.
Further notice will be given after the light has been re-lighted.

VESSELS APPROACHING AUSTRALIAN COAST TO REPORT BY WIRELESS.

THE following message addressed to all ships concerned was sent out at 6 a.m. on the 15th April, 1919, by radio:—
“V.I.S.: All ships approaching the Australian coast must send a noon position each day, also a health report.”
Ships leaving New Zealand for any port of Australia are notified accordingly.

Export of Hides and Calf-skins.—Permits for Export.

WHEREAS by Order in Council of the 16th day of April, 1918, the export of hides and calf-skins to any destination is prohibited save with the consent of the Minister of Customs:
And whereas the conditions on which such consent will be given are set out in a notice dated the 5th day of March, 1919, and published in the Gazette by the Comptroller of Customs on the 6th day of March, 1919:
And whereas it is desirable to modify those conditions so far as they relate to the export of hides and calf-skins sold by auction:
Now, therefore, it is hereby publicly notified as follows:—
- Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in clause 3 of the said notice of the 5th day of March, 1919, a permit for the export of hides or calf-skins may be granted if the applicant satisfies the Collector of Customs at the intended port of shipment, by the production of documentary evidence and in such other manner as the Collector may require, that the hides or calf-skins have been purchased at auction, and that before such auction the broker conducting the sale offered the tanners of New Zealand (through a representative of those tanners appointed under clause 3 of the said notice) an option of purchasing all or any of such hides or calf-skins at the grades and prices set out in the First Schedule hereto, and that such offer was refused.
- An application for a permit for the export of hides or calf-skins purchased at auction shall be in the form set out in the Second Schedule hereto.

The said goods are not intended for export by or on behalf of any tanner carrying on business in New Zealand or by or on behalf of a purchaser from any such tanner.
