WESTLAND LAND DISTRICT.

All that area in the Westland Land District, containing by admeasurement 5 acres 1 rood 7 perches, more or less, being Reserve 190, situated in Block V, Kanieri Survey District, bounded as follows: Commencing at a point 50·3 links on a bearing of 58° 2′ from Tube VII on the Hokitika-Ross Road, and proceeding along the east side of the said road, 318·7 and 662·6 links; thence 200 links on a bearing of 92° 48′; thence 1206·6 links on a bearing of 152° 25′; thence 459 links on a bearing 232° 51′ to the eastern side of the Hokitika-Ross Road, and along the said road 492·3 links to point of commencement. As the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 6/6/181, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon edged red. For a site for a public school.

CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT.

All that area in the Canterbury Land District, containing by admeasurement 10 acres, more or less, being Reserve 3999, situated in Block XI, Opuha Survey District. Bounded towards the north, east, and south by Section 1, Clayton Settlement, 1000 links, 1000 links, and 1000 links respectively; and towards the west by a public road, 1000 links. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 1/649, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red. For a public recreation-ground.

SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.

All that area in the Southland Land District, containing by admeasurement 41 acres 3 roods, more or less, being Section 19, Block XI, Longwood Survey District. Bounded towards the north by a public road, 1800·7 links; towards the south-east by a public road, 4448 links; towards the south-west by a reserve along the coast, 1128·1 links; and towards the north-west by Section 18, Block XI aforesaid, 3053·6 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less. As the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 7157/15, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red. For road and railway protection purposes.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this seventh day of April, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen.

Trustee for the Okato Public Cemetery appointed.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by section four of the Cemeteries Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby appoint

to be a trustee, in the place of James Doyle, deceased, to provide for the maintenance and care of the Okato Public Cemetery, in conjunction with John O’Connor, Robert Frederick Roebuck, William James Gray, James Smith Fox, and Thomas Doyle, previously appointed.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this seventh day of April, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen.

Trustee for the Flaxbourne Public Cemetery appointed.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by section four of the Cemeteries Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby appoint

WILLIAM JAMES McISAAC

to be a trustee, in the place of George William Harry Hayes, who has removed from the district, to provide for the maintenance and care of the Flaxbourne Public Cemetery, in conjunction with John Hoare and Richard Smith, previously appointed.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this seventh day of April, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen.

Commission to inquire into the State of that Part of the Clutha River where it runs in the Vicinity of the Borough of Balclutha, thence continuing to the Sea, and also into the State of the Orari, Rangitata, Waimakariri, Ashley, and Maraewhenua Rivers, and such other Rivers as may from time to time be added to this Commission.


LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

To all to whom these presents shall come, and to FREDERICK WILLIAM FURKERT, Esquire, of Wellington, Inspecting Engineer, Public Works Department; ASHLEY JOHN HUNTER, Esquire, of Auckland, Civil Engineer; and FRANCIS CHARLES HAY, Esquire, of Gisborne, Civil Engineer: Greeting.

WHEREAS it is expedient that an inquiry should be held into the state of that part of the Clutha River where it runs in the vicinity of the Borough of Balclutha, thence continuing to the sea, and also into the state of the Orari, Rangitata, Waimakariri, Ashley, and Maraewhenua Rivers, and such other rivers as may be added to this Commission from time to time by direction of Cabinet, but not later than six months from the date hereof (the whole of such rivers being hereinafter referred to as “the said rivers”), with the object of ascertaining the cause or causes of the silting-up, erosion, and flooding of the said rivers, and the best means of remedying the same, and what legislation (if any) is necessary or expedient in relation thereto:

Now, therefore, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers conferred by the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in this behalf, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, do hereby constitute and appoint you the said

FREDERICK WILLIAM FURKERT,
ASHLEY JOHN HUNTER, and
FRANCIS CHARLES HAY

to be a Commission—

(1.) To inquire into the cause or causes of the silting-up of the channels, the flooding of the adjacent lands by the said rivers, the erosion of their banks and the damage to the surrounding country:

(2.) To ascertain the nature and extent of the damage done to the lands adjacent to the said rivers, and what area of land is affected by such floods or erosion, or both, and whether it is practicable at reasonable expense to prevent such flooding or erosion, or both, either wholly or partially:

(3.) To ascertain the best method of providing for the control of the said rivers and their tributaries so as to safe guard the lands affected, and to provide for the effective control and improvement of the said rivers and their banks:

(4.) To ascertain the nature and extent of any drainage-works that may be required, and the best method of carrying out such works:

(5.) (a.) To furnish estimates of the cost of such remedial measures as you may recommend should be taken for the effective control and improvement of the said rivers and their banks:

(b.) To report in the case of each river what area or areas of land should be constituted a district in respect of which a rate may be levied to secure and pay the interest on and provide a fund for the repayment of any loan that may be raised to carry out any river-improvement works which you may recommend should be undertaken:

(c.) To report your opinion as to what matters, if any, should be adjusted by legislation: and

(d.) Generally, to report your opinion on all matters arising out of or touching the premises, including the question as to whether or not one or more competent authorities shall be appointed to control the whole or any portion or portions of the said rivers, and what statutory powers should be possessed by such authority.

And, with the like advice and consent, I hereby appoint you, the said FREDERICK WILLIAM FURKERT, to be Chairman of the said Commission.

And for the better enabling you, the said Commission, to carry these presents into effect you are hereby authorized and empowered to make and conduct any inquiry under these presents at such times and places in the said Dominion as you deem expedient, with power to adjourn from time to time and from place to place as you think fit, and to call before you and examine on oath or otherwise such person or persons as you think capable of affording you information in these premises. And you are also empowered to call for and examine such books, maps, documents, or records as you deem likely to afford you the fullest information on the subject-matter of the inquiry hereby directed to be made, and to inquire of and concerning the premises by all lawful means whatsoever.
