BUENOS AIRES. — MARTIN GARCIA ISLAND. — NEW RADIO STATION.

On Martin Garcia Island has been placed in public service a new radio station, with the following characteristics: Name, Isla de Martin Garcia; call, L I X; mean range by day, 100 miles; system of emission, Telefunken; sparks controlled, 250; length of waves, 300 to 600; time of service, permanent.

Approx. position: 34° 11′ 9·1″ S., 58° 15′ 26·8″ W.

HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.

OAHU ISLAND.—HONOLULU HARBOUR.—LIGHTS RE-EXHIBITED.

On the 5th December, 1918, the following lights in Honolulu Harbour, which have been extinguished for military reasons, were relighted:—

Entrance Gas Buoy 1.
Honolulu Channel Range Lights.
Honolulu Channel Light No. 3.
Honolulu Channel Light No. 4.
Honolulu Channel Gas Buoy No. 5.

JAPAN.

INFORMATION WITH REGARD TO SPEED TRIALS OF WARSHIPS AND VESSELS.

Warships or other vessels will display “A” flag of the International Code (white swallow-tailed flag with a blue fly) at the masthead or yardarm whilst undergoing speed trials in the vicinity of the areas given below. Vessels are warned not to approach such vessels whilst the above-mentioned signal is flown.

(a.) Tokyo Bay entrance—between Kannon Saki and Su-no Saki.

(b.) Izumí Nada—between Odari and Tsu-dono Hana.

(c.) Hiroshima Bay—between Atada Shima and Shingoro Jima.

(d.) South of Nagasaki Harbour—between Kaba Shima and Hayami.

(e.) Nagasaki Harbour approach—off the coast of Miye Ura.

(f.) Maizuru Bay approach—between Kamuri Jima and Kyoga-mi Saki.

(g.) Maizuru Bay approach—between Kuro Saki and Musoga Hana.

FORMOSA AND KOREA.—AMENDMENTS TO SYSTEM OF LOCAL METEOROLOGICAL SIGNALS.

The following amendments have been made to the local weather signals in use at Japanese storm-signal stations:—

When two of the terms “North, South, East, and West” are used in the weather forecasts the signals are given by means of triangular flags as under:—

N.E. Wind. N.W. Wind. S.E. Wind. S.W. Wind.

Also when two of the terms “Clearness, Cloudiness, Rain, and Snow” are used the following square flags will be employed:—

Clear, temporarily Cloudy. Clear, with little Rain occasionally. Clear, with little Snow occasionally. Cloudy, temporarily Clear.

Cloudy, little Rain. Cloudy, little Snow. Rain or Snow.

With regard to terms in the forecast other than those quoted above, the signals employed will be those which most closely approximate to the conditions.

When the forecast is divided into several phases, the signals will be shown in the same order as given in the forecast.

In some special local circumstances the local weather-forecast signals will not necessarily be exhibited.

In some special local circumstances the cylinder and cone of the local storm-signals will not necessarily be exhibited.

CHINA.

EAST COAST.—YANGTZE RIVER ENTRANCE.—SOUTH CHANNEL.—WRECK.—LIGHT-BUOY ESTABLISHED.—LIGHT-BUOYS DISCONTINUED.

The two light-buoys, outer and inner, marking the wreck of the steamer “Shaohsing,” sunk in the south channel of the Yangtze River, have been discontinued, and a light-buoy, painted green and showing an occulting white light every 8 seconds—thus, light 4 seconds, eclipse 4 seconds—has been established 100 yards south-eastward of the wreck.

From the buoy Tungsha Light-vessel bears 313° 30′ distant 3·1 miles.

Approximate position of Tungsha Light-vessel: 31° 7′ 45″ N., 121° 59′ 38″ E.

GULF OF ADEN.

PORT OF ADEN.—TRAFFIC-SIGNALS ESTABLISHED.

Position.—Signal-station flagstaff, lat. 12° 47′ N., long. 44° 58⅓′ E.

Details.—The following traffic-signals are exhibited from the port signal-station, in order to denote that the channel is blocked:—

By Day.—A red flag at the masthead.

By Night.—Two red lights disposed vertically.

Remarks.—These signals are hoisted when a vessel inside the inner harbour is proceeding to sea.

Note.—The following note is to be inserted on the charts: A red flag by day and 2 red lights (vertl.) by night, hoisted at the masthead of sig. stn. F.S., denotes “Entrance channel blocked.”

PORT OF ADEN.—PROHIBITED ANCHORAGE.

Position.—Flint Island, lat. 12° 47½′ N., long. 44° 59¼′ E.

Details.—Anchorage is prohibited in the inner harbour at the Port of Aden, within an area bounded by the following limits:—

(a.) On the East.—By a line drawn from No. 8 buoy in a 151° (S. 28° E. mag.) direction, passing through the eastern end of Flint Island, to the shore at the coal wharves.

b.) On the West.—By a line drawn from No. 8 buoy to the light-buoy exhibiting a fixed red light, situated at a distance of about three-quarters of a cable to the southward; thence in a 161° (S. 18° E. mag.) direction, passing through the western end of Flint Island, to the shore near the coal wharves.
