Imposing Duty on Plates, Cups, Butter-dishes, and other Table Utensils, of Cardboard or Paper.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this twenty-fifth day of March, 1919.

THE HONOURABLE SIR JAMES ALLEN, K.C.B., PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS plates, cups, butter-dishes, and other table utensils, of cardboard or paper are not specially enumerated in the Tariff, and are, in the opinion of the Minister of Customs, a substitute for earthenware plates, cups, butter-dishes, and other table utensils within the meaning of section one hundred and thirty-five of the Customs Act, 1913:
And whereas such earthenware plates, cups, butter-dishes, and other table utensils are chargeable with duty as earthenware at the rate of twenty per cent. ad valorem if the produce or manufacture of some part of the British Dominions, and thirty per cent. ad valorem if not the produce or manufacture of such Dominions:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by section one hundred and thirty-five of the Customs Act, 1913, and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of that Dominion, doth hereby declare that plates, cups, butter-dishes, and other table utensils, of cardboard or paper shall be charged with duty at the rate of twenty per cent. ad valorem if the produce or manufacture of some part of the British Dominions, and thirty per cent. ad valorem if not the produce or manufacture of such Dominions.
