The lands may be selected for cash or on deferred pay-
ments, or selected on lease for thirty-three years, with right
of renewal for further successive terms of thirty-three years
and a right to acquire the freehold.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board
for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office,
Christchurch, on Wednesday, 26th February, 1919, at 10
o’clock a.m.
The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination
of applicants.
Possession will be given on the 1st April, 1919.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION.
Homebrook Settlement is situated within half a mile of the
Southbridge Railway-station. It is all flat agricultural land,
varying from sandy loam to clay loam, mostly in grass and
stubble. It is well watered by streams and water-races.
Altitude, about 80 ft. above sea-level.
IMPROVEMENTS.
The improvements that go with the land consist of bound-
ary and subdivision fencing valued as follows:—
Section 1, £66 5s. 6d.; Section 2, £49 7s.; Section 3, £75;
Section 4, £54 10s. 6d.; Section 5, £25 14s. 6d.; Section 6,
£70; Section 7, £60 14s.; Section 8, £2 2s.; Section 9, £12;
Section 10, £13 16s.; Section 11, £42 10s.; Section 12,
£28 8s.; Section 13, £37 2s.; Section 14, £27 3s.; Section 15,
£20 13s.; Section 16, £26 3s.
The improvements that do not go with the land, but which
have to be paid for separately, are as follows :—
On Section 6, a house, two stables, cow-shed, and hut,
valued at £450, which may be paid for in cash or by twenty-
eight half-yearly instalments of £22 14s. 6d. Total half-
yearly instalment on lease, £88 8s. 6d.
On Section 11, a house and outbuildings, whare, stables,
cow-shed, wool-shed, and barn, valued at £380, which may
be paid for in cash or by twenty-eight half-yearly instal-
ments of £19 3s. 10d. Total half-yearly instalment on lease,
£63 1s. 4d.
On Section 13, a house, wash-house, dairy, two stables,
trap-shed, cow-shed, and whare, valued at £460, which may
be paid for in cash or by twenty-eight half-yearly instal-
ments of £23 4s. 7d. Total half-yearly instalment on lease
£71 12s. 1d.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands
are open for license by discharged soldiers under the
regulations for the occupation of pastoral lands in the Kara-
mea and Westland Mining Districts and the Discharged
Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915; and applications will be re-
ceived at the District Lands and Survey Office, Hokitika, up
to 4 o’clock p.m. on Wednesday, the 19th March, 1919.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board
for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office,
Hokitika, on Thursday, the 20th March, 1919, at 10.30 o’clock
a.m.
The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination
of applicants.

WESTLAND LAND DISTRICT.—KARAMEA AND WESTLAND
MINING DISTRICTS.—NATIONAL ENDOWMENT LAND.
Westland County.—Waimea Survey District.
SECTION 2537A, Block VII: Area, 69 acres; capital value,
£70; half-yearly rent, £1 8s.
Soil of fair quality, resting on gravel; well watered. The
section comprises flat land, covered with thick bush of rimu,
birch, &c., which has been worked by a sawmill. It is situated
on the east side of Kumara-Greymouth Road. Access from
Kumara Railway-station, three-quarters of a mile distant, by
good metalled road.
Section 3184, Block VII: Area, 200 acres; capital value,
£100; half-yearly rent, £2.
Soil of poor quality, resting on gravel; well watered by
creeks. The land is level and swampy, covered with birch,
rimu, &c., and second growth. Timber of commercial value
has been milled. Situated two miles from Kumara Junction
by good metalled dray-road.
Section 3217, Block VII: Area, 192 acres 2 roods; capital
value, £130; half-yearly rent, £2 12s.
Comprises about 12 acres good river-bed scrub land, re-
mainder carrying bush consisting of rimu, rata, white-pine,
&c., from which the timber of commercial value has been
removed. Soil on river-flat of good, light, sandy nature;
remainder of poor, wet, clayey formation on hard subsoil.
Altitude, 20 ft. to 150 ft. above sea-level. Well watered.
Access by Greymouth-Kumara Road from Kumara Railway-
station, a distance of a mile and a half, thence by unformed
road about thirty chains.
Grey County.—Mawheranui Survey District.
Section 2723, Block XIII: Area, 425 acres; capital value,
£220; half-yearly rent, £4 8s.
All open, burnt silver-pine country, with an undergrowth
of manuka and mixed scrub. Soil on section is generally
inferior, of a wet peaty nature, with some fair land along
Piper’s Creek, all resting on gravel; well watered. Access
from Stillwater Junction Railway-station (where there is a
post and telephone office) by main Grey-Reefton Road, one
mile; thence by Grey-Kotuku Road, two miles.
