THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

The notice gazetted on the 5th day of August, 1909, fixing
closing-hours of drapers', grocers', tailors', and ironmongers'
shops in the Borough of Palmerston North is hereby cancelled
in so far as it relates to grocers' shops, as from the date of
the coming into operation of this notice.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Hairdressers' and Tobacco-
nists' Shops in the Borough of Whangarei, under the Shops
and Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority
of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades
of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist in the Borough of Wha-
garei, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops
in the borough be closed in the evening of working-days as
follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 10 p.m., with the following
exceptions—(1) the working-day immediately preceding
Christmas Day and the working-day immediately preceding
New Year's Day, when the hour of closing shall be 10.30 p.m.;
(2) when any day is generally observed as a holiday in the
district, any shop that is closed at not later than 1 o'clock
on that day and that is usually closed for the statutory half-
holiday on another day of the week may remain open on the
latter day until the hour fixed by this notice for the day on
which the holiday is observed; and (3) should the occupier
of any shop affected by this requisition observe (pursuant to
section 11 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908) Saturday
as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-
hour on Thursday for any such shop shall be 6 p.m. and on
Friday 10 p.m.:
And whereas the Whangarei Borough Council has certified
that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority
of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of
(1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the Borough of
Whangarei:
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of
Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices
Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 18th day
of December, 1919, all the shops in each of the trades of
(1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist in the Borough of Wha-
garei shall be closed accordingly.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the
Board of the Wharepapa Road District, is published
in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans
Act, 1913.

WHAREPAPA ROAD BOARD.
Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.

Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act,
1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the
Wharepapa Road District was taken on the 18th day of November, 1919, on the proposal of the Wharepapa Road Board to
borrow the sum of £5,000 for the purpose of metalling roads
for the first time.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 94, and
the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 2.
I hereby declare the proposal carried.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the
Council of the County of Kaitieke, is published in
accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans
Act, 1913.

KAITIEKE COUNTY COUNCIL.
Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.
Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act,
1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers
of the Hunua-Owhango Special Rating Area in the County
of Kaitieke taken on the 27th day of November, 1919, on the
proposal of the Kaitieke County Council to borrow the sum
of £10,000 for the purpose of widening, culverting, and metalling portions of the main service, the Hikimutu–Owhango, the
Makokomiko, the Tunanui, the Kawautahi, the Waitea, the
Waitea Branch, and the Otapouri roads, and of forming and
culverting portion of the Piriaka Road, the number of votes
recorded for the proposal was 68, and the number of votes
recorded against the proposal was 8.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Notice of Intention to take Additional Land for the Purposes
of the Paparua Prison (Templeton) in Block XII,
Rolleston Survey District.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the
provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to take
the additional land described in the Schedule hereto
for the purposes of the Paparua Prison (Templeton) in
Block XII. Rolleston Survey District. And notice is hereby
further given that the plan of the land so required to be
taken is deposited in the post-office at Templeton, and is
there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by
the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth
the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty
days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister
of Public Works at Wellington.

SCHEDULE.
APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken :
116 acres 3 roods.
Being Section 8, Drayton Settlement, Block XII, Rolleston
Survey District.
In the Canterbury Land District; as the same is more
particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 47590,
deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at
Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon
edged blue.
As witness my hand, at Wellington, this 6th day of
