THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Hobson County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.

Notice is hereby given that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Aratapu Riding taken on the 23rd January, 1919, on the proposal to borrow £1,500 for the metalling and tar sealing of the Aratapu Dargaville Road, the number of votes recorded was as follows: For the proposal, 26; against the proposal, 2.

I therefore declare the proposal to be carried.

BOROUGH OF ONEHUNGA.

Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Onehunga was taken on the 22nd day of January, 1919, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £35,000 for roading purposes.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 276; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 344; informal, 6.

I therefore declare that the proposal was rejected.

CITY OF AUCKLAND.

Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of portion of the City of Auckland (being the whole of the said city except the Grey Lynn area) was taken on the 22nd day of January, 1919, on the proposal of the Auckland City Council to borrow the sum of £165,000 for the execution of street-improvement works in the said portion of the City of Auckland, including particularly the following works:—

(a.) The paving in concrete or some other permanent material of the following streets or portions thereof: Albert Street, Wyndham Street, Federal Street, Victoria Street West, Gittos Street, Manukau Road, Remuera Road, Ponsonby Road, Customs Street West, Sturdee Street, Beatty Street, High Street, Fort Street Lane, Elliott Street and Old Market, Eden Terrace, New North Road, Hobson Street, Khyber Pass Road, Mount Eden Road.

(b.) The forming, kerbing, channelling, and metalling of the following streets or portions thereof: Marine Parade, Anglesea Street, Collingwood Street, Willow Street, France Street, The Strand (Parnell), Gladstone Road (Parnell), Belmont Terrace, Mamie Street, Clonbern Road, Victoria Avenue, Gillies Avenue, The Drive (Epsom), St. Mark’s Road, Gundry Street.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 903, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 487.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Clothiers’, Drapers’, Mercers’, Milliner and Ladies Outfitters’, Furniture and House-furnishing Dealers’, and Tailors’ Shops in the Borough of Napier, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) clothier, (2) draper, (3) mercer, (4) milliner and ladies outfitter, (5) furniture and house-furnishing dealer, and (6) tailor in the Borough of Napier, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturday at 6 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) the Saturday following Good Friday and the Saturdays in the period from the 15th day of December to the 8th day of January, both days inclusive, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; (2) the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when there shall be no fixed closing-hour; (3) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any of the days therein mentioned other than Wednesday as the statutory closing-day in any week, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop in that week shall be 5.30 p.m.; (4) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 11 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 5.30 p.m.:

And whereas the Napier Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) clothier, (2) draper, (3) mercer, (4) milliner and ladies outfitter, (5) furniture and house-furnishing dealer, and (6) tailor within the Borough of Napier:

Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 12th day of February, 1919, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) clothier, (2) draper, (3) mercer, (4) milliner and ladies outfitter, (5) furniture and house-furnishing dealer, and (6) tailor in the Borough of Napier shall be closed accordingly.

Dated at Wellington this 5th day of February, 1919.
