Meetings of Taranaki Land Board.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has, in pursuance of section 48 of the Land Act, 1908, approved of meetings of the Taranaki Land Board being held at the District Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, at 10 o’clock a.m. on Wednesday, 22nd January, 26th February, 26th March, 30th April, 28th May, 25th June, 23rd July, 27th August, 24th September, 22nd October, 19th November, and 17th December during the year 1919.

Meetings of Nelson Land Board.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has, in pursuance of section 48 of the Land Act, 1908, approved of meetings of the Nelson Land Board being held at the District Lands and Survey Office, Nelson, at 10 o’clock a.m. on Thursday, 9th January, 13th February, 20th March, 10th April, 8th May, 12th June, 10th July, 14th August, 11th September, 9th October, 13th November, and 11th December during the year 1919.

Rangitaiki Land Drainage District.

NOTICE OF INTENTION TO MAKE AND LEVY RATES.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is intended, pursuant to the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act, 1910, and the regulations thereunder, to make and levy a rate for the period from the 1st April, 1918, to the 31st March, 1919, on the unimproved value of all land within the district constituted under the said Act.

The amount of such rate will be payable in one sum on the 31st January, 1919.

The valuation roll of the district is open for inspection at the Head Office, Lands and Survey Department, Government Buildings, Wellington, and a copy of the same may be inspected at the office of the Chief Drainage Engineer, Whakatane, at all times at which those offices are open for the transaction of public business.

Hauraki Plains Drainage District.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is intended, pursuant to the Hauraki Plains Act, 1908, and its amendments, to make and levy a rate for the period from the 1st April, 1918, to the 31st March, 1919, on the unimproved value of all land within the district constituted under the said Act.

The amount of such rate will be payable in one sum on the 31st January, 1919.

The valuation roll of the district is open for inspection at the Head Office, Lands and Survey Department, Government Buildings, Wellington, and a copy of the same may be inspected at the office of the Chief Drainage Engineer, Kerepeehi, at all times at which those offices are open for the transaction of public business.

Date of Election to fill Extraordinary Vacancy on Christchurch Fire Board by Fire-insurance Companies.

Wellington, 8th January, 1919.

PURSUANT to the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, and the rules made thereunder, I, George Warren Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, being the Minister charged with the administration of the said Act, do hereby appoint Saturday, the 18th January, 1919, to be the day for holding the election of one member of the Christchurch Fire Board by the fire insurance companies concerned, such election being held to fill an extraordinary vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. G. J. A. Kerruish.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Grocers’, Drapers’, and Boot and Shoe Dealers’ Shops in the Borough of Queenstown, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) grocer, (2) draper, and (3) boot and shoe dealer in the Borough of Queenstown, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) The working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; (2) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 11, (2), of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 6 p.m., and the closing-hour on Friday shall be 9 p.m.; (3) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any of the special days therein mentioned other than Wednesday as the statutory closing-day in any week, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop in that week shall be 6 p.m., and should such special day fall on Saturday the closing-hour on Friday in that week shall be 9 p.m.:

And whereas the Queenstown Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) grocer, (2) draper, and (3) boot and shoe dealer in the Borough of Queenstown:

Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 15th day of January, 1919, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) grocer, (2) draper, and (3) boot and shoe dealer in the Borough of Queenstown shall be closed accordingly.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Waitemata County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

COUNTY OF WAITEMATA.

Result of Poll on Proposed Loan.

PURSUANT to the provisions of section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of ratepayers of the Titirangi Riding of the County of Waitemata was taken on the 20th instant on the proposal of the Waitemata County Council to borrow the sum of £2,000 for the purpose of road construction, metalling, grading, and bridge-building in the said Titirangi Riding of the County of Waitemata.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 74, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 33. I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Hauraki Drainage Board was taken on the twenty-first day of December, 1918, on the proposal of the Hauraki Drainage Board to borrow the sum of £5,000 for widening, deepening, erecting floodgates, and improving present water-
