SPENCER GULF.—PORT PIRIE.—ESTABLISHMENT OF TIME-BALL.
Masters of vessels and others are hereby informed that a time-ball has been established on the flagstaff at the Harbourmaster’s residence, Port Pirie, and will be dropped daily (Sundays and holidays excepted) at 1 p.m. standard zone time, for longitude 142° 30′ E., and corresponding to 15 hours 30 mins. Greenwich mean time.
The ball will be hoisted half-way up the topmast at 12 hours 55 mins., to the masthead at 12 hours 57 mins., and dropped exactly at 1 p.m., the instant of the ball commencing to drop being the time to be noted.
In the event of the ball from any cause failing to drop at the correct time, it will be lowered slowly, or should it drop before the correct time, it will be hoisted again and lowered slowly, and whenever this happens the ball will be hoisted half-mast at 1 hour 55 mins., mastheaded at 1 hour 57 mins., and dropped at 2 p.m., corresponding to 16 hours 30 mins. Greenwich mean time.
Approximate position: Lat. 33° 10¼′ S., long. 138° 1′ E.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.
Land in Hawke’s Bay Land District forfeited.

NOTICE is hereby given that the leases of the undermentioned lands having been declared forfeited by resolution of the Hawke’s Bay Land Board, the said lands have thereby reverted to the Crown under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908, and the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915.

Section 4, Block III, Puketapu Survey District.
Tenure: S.T.L. 31. Formerly held by Richard Hubert Hollis. Reason for forfeiture: For non-compliance with the provisions of the Act.

Land in the Southland Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Invercargill, up to four o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, the 20th August, 1918.
The lands may be selected for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for sixty-six years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of sixty-six years and a right to acquire the freehold.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Invercargill, on Thursday, 22nd August, 1918, at 10 o’clock a.m.
The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.
SCHEDULE.
SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.—FIRST-CLASS LAND.
Wallace County.—Lillburn Survey District.
Section 21, Block I: Area, 263 acres; capital value, £660; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £33; half-yearly rent on lease, £14 17s.
Section 22, Block I: Area, 240 acres; capital value, £600; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £30; half-yearly rent on lease, £13 10s.
Altitude, from 300 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Hilly undulating, flat-topped spurs, covered with mixed bush. The quality of the soil varies from good to fair, on limestone, gravel, and papa formation. Access by metalled and unformed roads, about one mile from Clifden and between seven and eight miles from Tuatapere. Well watered by small streams. When felled and burnt, land should carry grass well, and will be suitable for either sheep and cattle farming or dairying.

Pinus Insignis Plantation in the Marlborough Land District for Disposal.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Blenheim, 10th June, 1918.
NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the right to fell and remove the Pinus insignis plantation of 561 trees, situated near Wairau Valley Township, Hillersden Settlement, will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Blenheim, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Thursday, 18th July, 1918.
The plantation is estimated to contain at least 168,300 superficial feet of milling timber. It also contains a large quantity of firewood. Minimum price, £80.
CONDITIONS OF SALE.

A deposit of 10 per cent. of the amount tendered to accompany tender; the balance to be paid immediately on acceptance of tender.

Trees to be felled within one month from acceptance of tender. The time may be extended to not more than six months, provided the purchaser undertakes all responsibility for any damage caused by trees being blown down.

All tops, refuse, &c., to be cleaned up and burnt, or otherwise disposed of to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

Main and side roads must be kept open for traffic.

Post and Telegraph Department to be notified when falling operations are likely to interfere with the wires, &c.

Purchaser to take necessary steps for prevention of stock wandering, through the damaging of fences.

Tenders to be addressed to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Blenheim, and envelope marked “Tender for Plantation.”

The macrocarpa trees along the fence-line are reserved for the repair of fences.
