THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Hydrographic Office, London; the Hydrographic Office, Washington; the Master Attendant, Colombo; and the Harbours Board Offices, Adelaide, are published for general information.

ENGLAND.

WEST COAST.—ST. IVES BAY APPROACH.—EXISTENCE OF A WRECK.

Position.—At a distance of about 1¼ miles northward of Battery Point. Lat. 50° 14′ 18″ N., long. 5° 29′ 25″ W.

Description.—Sunken wreck of a steamer, with mast showing 8 ft. above low water.

LIVERPOOL BAY.—RIVER MERSEY APPROACH.—FURTHER INFORMATION re ALTERATIONS IN LIGHTING.

1. Amended position of bar light-vessel :
   New position.—Lat. 53° 33′ 50″ N., long. 3° 25′ 20″ W.
   Description.—A light-vessel exhibiting a group flashing white light.

2. Amended position and description of light-buoys :
   (a.) North light-buoy—
   New position.—Lat. 53° 35′ 56″ N., long. 3° 25′ 56″ W.
   New description.—A black conical light-buoy exhibiting a flashing white light.

(b.) South light-buoy—
New position.—Lat. 53° 30′ 42″ N., long. 3° 24′ 55″ W.
Description.—A red conical light-buoy exhibiting a flashing green light.
Remarks.—This light-buoy is known as the South light-buoy.

(c.) Pillar light-buoy—
Position.—Lat. 53° 32′ 18″ N., long. 3° 19′ 20″ W.
New description.—A black and white chequered pillar light-buoy exhibiting a flashing white light.

SOUTH COAST.—HASTINGS.—WRECK SOUTHWARD OF.

Position.—At a distance of about 3 miles southward of Hastings. Lat. 50° 48′ 40″ N., long. 0° 37′ 45″ E.

Description.—A wreck, with the stern of the vessel showing above water.

START POINT.—WRECK SOUTH-WESTWARD OF.

Position.—At a distance of one mile, 221° (S. 57° W. mag.), from Start Point Lighthouse. Lat. 50° 12½′ N., long. 3° 39½′ W.

Description.—Sunken wreck, with derrick showing 3 ft. above water.

Variation.—16° W.

BRIGHTON.—WRECK SOUTH-WESTWARD OF.

Position (approximate).—At a distance of about 7½ miles south-westward of Brighton West Pier. Lat. 50° 43′ N., long. 0° 16′ W.

Description.—Sunken wreck, over which there is a least depth of 2¾ fathoms.

WHITSAND BAY.—BUOYS ESTABLISHED TO MARK DANGER AREA.

(a.) Inner buoy :
Position.—At a distance of 6·3 cables, 182° (S. 18° W. mag.), from Portwrinkle Coastguard-station. Lat. 50° 21′ N., long. 4° 19′ W.
Description.—A red conical buoy with staff and globe.

(b.) Outer buoy :
Position.—At a distance of 3 miles and three-quarters of a cable, 292° (N. 52° W. mag.), from Rame Chapel ruin.
Description.—A red conical buoy with staff and triangle.
Remarks.—These buoys, and the rifle-range beacons situated on the coast to the eastward as shown on charts, mark the limits of the danger area from rifle fire.
Variation.—16° W.

DOVER CHANNEL.—HASTINGS.—WRECKS SOUTHWARD OF.

(a.) Position (approximate).—Lat. 50° 46′ N., long. 0° 38′ E.
Description.—Sunken wreck of a steamer with both masts showing above water.

(b.) Position (approximate).—Lat. 50° 46′ N., long. 0° 38′ 45″ E.
Description.—Sunken wreck of a steamer.

WALES.

SOUTH COAST.—CARDIFF ROADS AND APPROACH.—LIGHT-BUOYS ESTABLISHED.

(a.) Position.—At a distance of 16 cables, 295° (N. 49° W. mag), from Monkstone Lighthouse, in the position formerly occupied by Middle Cardiff buoy, which it replaces. Monkstone Lighthouse, lat. 51° 24¾′ N., long. 3° 6′ W.

Description.—A black conical light-buoy exhibiting a flashing white light every ten seconds.

(b.) Position.—At a distance of 12¾ cables, 234° (S. 70° W. mag.), from Monkstone Lighthouse.

Description.—A red conical light-buoy exhibiting a flashing red light every ten seconds.

Variation.—16° W.

FRANCE.

NORTH COAST.—CAP DE LA HEVE.—WRECK NORTH-WEST-WARD OF MARKED BY BUOY.

(a.) Wreck :
Position.—At a distance of about 4½ miles north-westward from Cap de la Heve Lighthouse. Lat. 49° 32′ 30″ N., long. 0° 2′ 18″ W., on Chart No. 2146.

Description.—Sunken wreck of a steamer.

(b.) Buoy :
Position.—Marking the above wreck.

Description.—A green conical buoy numbered “2.”

Note.—This wreck is already shown on some copies of the charts. On certain copies of the charts this wreck is shown as being marked by a light-buoy; the light-buoy has been withdrawn.

MEDITERRANEAN.

GULF OF TUNIS.—CAPE CARTHAGE LIGHT.—INTENDED ALTERATION IN PERIOD.

Date of Alteration.—1st June, 1918.

Position.—Lat. 36° 52¼′ N., long. 10° 20¾′ E.

New Abridged Description.—Lt. fl. ev. 5 secs., 482 ft., vis. 20 m.

Alteration.—The period of this flashing light will be altered from twenty seconds to five seconds.

Remarks.—The note “Irregular in revolving” against this light is to be expunged from the chart.

Note.—No further notice will be given.

CEYLON.

EAST COAST.—LATITUDE 7° 45′ N., LONGITUDE 81° 41′ E.

Adverting to Notice to Mariners dated 20th March, 1918, notice is hereby given that the can buoy painted black marking the beacon rock will be in position from 15th May, 1918.

Charts affected.—Admiralty Charts No. 2031, Ceylon East Coast; No. 828, Cape Comorin to Coconada; No. 70, Bay of Bengal.

Publications.—“Bay of Bengal Pilot,” 1910, pages 153 and 154.

NEW GUINEA.

SOUTH COAST.—SUNKEN BARRIER.—BREAKERS REPORTED.

Positions.—(a.) Lat. 10° 41′ S., long. 149° 55′ E., extending about 3 miles to the eastward. (b.) Lat. 10° 47′ S., long. 150° 10¾′ E.

Details.—Heavy breakers were observed in approximately the above positions, and a note “Breaks” is to be inserted on the charts.

Charts affected.—No. 916, Su-a-u Harbour and adjacent coasts; No. 2123, Orangerie Bay to Bramble Haven; No. 2122, Round Head to Orangerie Bay; No. 2764, Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef, sheet 2.

CUBA.

SOUTH COAST.—JARDINILLOS BANK.—DECREASED DEPTHS REPORTED.

The first officer of a steamer reports depths of 3 fathoms, coral bottom, on Jardinillos Bank, about 7 miles east-south-eastward of East Rock light.

In crossing the bank from north to south shoal-spots were first seen in (approximately) 21° 38′ N., 80° 55′ 30″ W., and were last seen in (approximately) 21° 35′ N., 80° 57′ W.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

KANGAROO ISLAND.—MARSDEN POINT LIGHT.—AMENDED VISIBILITY.

Position.—Lat 35° 34¼′ S., long. 137° 37¼′ E.

New Abridged Description.—(U) Lt. fl., ev. 6 secs.. 155 ft., vis. 12 m.
