Notice to Mariners.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 3rd July, 1918.
NOTICE is hereby given that the Secretary of State for the Colonies has advised that masters of all British ships, whether on Government service or not, should be instructed that no marine protests should be noted in the Dominions or Colonies except before an officer of the Government.
The Superintendents of Mercantile Marine are the officers before whom such protests should be noted in New Zealand.

Result of Poll.
I HEREBY give notice that the number of votes recorded upon the taking of the poll on the 1st instant, for and against the proposal of the Council of the City of Wellington to borrow (by way of special loan within the meaning of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913), for the provision of a drainage system within that part of the Hutt County situate at Day’s Bay, described in the Schedule to the Day’s Bay Sanitation and Water-supply Act, 1917, was as follows: For the proposal, 50; against the proposal, 67.
I therefore declare the proposal to be rejected.

Result of Poll.

I therefore declare the proposal to be rejected.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of all Shops in the Waiuku Town District, under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops within the Waiuku Town District, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the town district shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 5 p.m., and on Saturdays at 8 p.m., with the following exceptions—(a) Should the occupier of any shop in the Waiuku Town District, pursuant to the provisions of section 11 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, observe Saturday as the statutory closing-day, the closing-hour on Thursday for any such shop shall be 8 p.m.; (b) the evening of the working-day immediately preceding each of the following days, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign, and any other day which, pursuant to a Proclamation by the Governor-General or declaration by the Government, or on the request of the Mayor or Chairman of the local authority, is generally observed as a public holiday or half-holiday, when the closing-hour shall be 8 p.m.; and (c) the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the evening of the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.:
And whereas the Waiuku Town Board has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops within the Waiuku Town District:
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 15th day of July, 1918, all the shops in the Waiuku Town District shall be closed accordingly.

TENDERS will be received at the office of the Chairman, General Post-office, Wellington, not later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the 31st July, 1918, for the supply and delivery, C.I.F. and E., ports, New Zealand, of 25,690 natural round ironbark poles.
Particulars and conditions of tendering may be obtained at the office of the Controller of Stores, Post and Telegraph Department, Wellington, the District Storekeeper, Post and Telegraph Department, Christchurch, or at the offices of the Telegraph Engineers at Auckland and Dunedin.
