sea-level. With the exception of Nos. 39s and 42s, all the sections are well watered. Permanent water could probably be got on Sections 39s and 42s by sinking. Access to each section is by a good road.

IMPROVEMENTS.

The improvements included in the capital values of the sections comprise boundary and subdivisional fencing valued as follows: Section 19s, £26 2s.; Section 20s, £37 4s.; Section 33s, £12 4s.; Section 34s, £31 16s.; Section 35s, £36 14s.; Section 39s, £30 12s.; Section 42s, £22 7s.

Land in the Southland Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Invercargill, 24th June, 1918.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Invercargill, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, the 20th August, 1918.

The lands may be selected for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for sixty-six years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of sixty-six years and a right to acquire the freehold.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Invercargill, on Thursday, 22nd August, 1918, at 10 o’clock a.m.

The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.

Southland County.—New River Hundred.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

SECTION 15, Block X: Area, 80 acres 0 roods 4 perches; capital value, £160; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £8; half-yearly rent on lease, £3 4s.

Section 16, Block X: Area, 80 acres 0 roods 4 perches; capital value, £160; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £8; half-yearly rent on lease, £3 4s.

Section 17, Block X: Area, 80 acres 0 roods 4 perches; capital value, £120; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £6; half-yearly rent on lease, £2 8s.

Section 18, Block X: Area, 80 acres 0 roods 4 perches; capital value, £140; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £7; half-yearly rent on lease, £2 16s.

Section 25, Block X: Area, 79 acres 0 roods 2 perches; capital value, £260; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £13; half-yearly rent on lease, £5 4s.

Section 29, Block X: Area, 79 acres 0 roods 1 perch; capital value, £80; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £4; half-yearly rent on lease, £1 12s.

Sections 51A and 52A, Block VIII: Area, 98 acres 1 rood 4 perches; capital value, £345; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £17 5s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £6 18s.

Altitude, about 120 ft. All old sawmill workings, level country; partly swampy, which should prove good soil when drained; suitable for grazing and dairying when cleared, &c.

Sections 15 to 18 are situated between three and four miles from Ryal Bush Railway-station by gravelled road to within one mile of Section 18, thence unformed.

Section 25 is five miles distant by same route.

Section 29 is situated five miles and a half from Makarewa Railway-station by gravelled road, except for three-quarters of a mile which is unformed.

Sections 51A and 52A are situated three miles from Wilson’s Crossing Railway-station by good gravelled road. Steps are being taken to improve the access in those cases where roads are at present unformed. The sections are subject to existing tram rights and to any future tram rights that may be granted, until same are cancelled by the Land Board.

Wallace County.—Jacob’s River Hundred.

FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Section 5, Block XXII: Area, 306 acres 1 rood 19 perches; capital value, £570; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £28 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £11 8s.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Section 7, Block XXII: Area, 291 acres 3 roods 9 perches; capital value, £325; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £16 5s.; half-yearly rent on lease £6 10s.

Worked-out bush country, hilly and undulating, well watered by running streams; soil fair on Section 7, to good on Section 5; suitable for pastoral purposes or dairying when cleared and grassed. Section 5 is situated two miles and a half from Fairfax Railway-station, &c., and Section 7 is four miles distant therefrom. Three-quarters of a mile gravelled, balance formed to within a few chains of Section 5, thence unformed.

Pinus Insignis Plantation in the Marlborough Land District for Disposal.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Blenheim, 10th June, 1918.

NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the right to fell and remove the Pinus insignis plantation of 561 trees, situated near Wairau Valley Township, Hillersden Settlement, will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Blenheim, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Thursday, 18th July, 1918.

The plantation is estimated to contain at least 168,300 superficial feet of milling timber. It also contains a large quantity of firewood. Minimum price, £80.


CONDITIONS OF SALE.

  1. A DEPOSIT of 10 per cent. of the amount tendered to accompany tender; the balance to be paid immediately on acceptance of tender.

  2. Trees to be felled within one month from acceptance of tender. The time may be extended to not more than six months, provided the purchaser undertakes all responsibility for any damage caused by trees being blown down.

  3. All tops, refuse, &c., to be cleaned up and burnt, or otherwise disposed of to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

  4. Main and side roads must be kept open for traffic.

  5. Post and Telegraph Department to be notified when falling operations are likely to interfere with the wires, &c.

  6. Purchaser to take necessary steps for prevention of stock wandering, through the damaging of fences.

  7. Tenders to be addressed to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Blenheim, and envelope marked “Tender for Plantation.”

  8. The macrocarpa trees along the fence-line are reserved for the repair of fences.
