Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Butchers’ Shops in the Borough of New Plymouth, under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the butchers’ shops within the Borough of New Plymouth, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at 5.30 p.m., on Saturday at 6 p.m., and on Friday at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) Should Easter Saturday be generally observed as a holiday in the Borough of New Plymouth, the closing-hour on the preceding Thursday for any butcher’s shop that is closed at not later than 1 p.m. on that holiday shall be 9 p.m.; (2) any occupier who observes Saturday as the statutory half-holiday shall be entitled to keep his shop open on Thursday till 5.30 p.m., and on Friday till 9 p.m.; (3) should any other day than Thursday in any week be generally observed as a holiday in the Borough of New Plymouth, the closing-hour on Thursday for any butcher’s shop that is closed at not later than 1 p.m. on that holiday shall be 5.30 p.m.:

And whereas the New Plymouth Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the butchers’ shops within the Borough of New Plymouth:

Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 1st day of July, 1918, all butchers’ shops in the Borough of New Plymouth shall be closed accordingly.

NOTE.—The Navy League North Sea Relief Fund (Auckland), a notification of the approval of which appeared on page 2895 of Gazette No. 93, on 31st August, 1916, has now been closed.

The name of the St. John Ambulance Association Red Cross Fund (Christchurch), a notification of the approval of which appeared on page 2896 of the Gazette No. 93, on 31st August, 1916, has now been changed to “The Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough, and Westland Centre, N.Z. Branch of the British Red Cross and Order of St. John.”

The name of the Auckland Women’s Patriotic League, a notification of the approval of which appeared on page 3066 of Gazette No. 107, on 21st September, 1916, has now been changed to “The Auckland Women’s Provincial Patriotic League.”

The name of The King George’s Fund for Sailors, a notification of the approval of which appeared on page 4195 of Gazette No. 165, on 8th November, 1917, has now been changed to “The Navy League King George’s Fund for Sailors.”

Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.

IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under the Government Railways Act, 1908, and its amendments, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government Railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 1st day of July, 1918.

PART VI.—WHARVES.

NELSON WHARF.

Water-supply to Shipping.

Cancel—
A charge of 4s. per 1,000 gallons will be made for water supplied to any vessel. Minimum charge, 2s.

Insert—
A charge of 8s. 5d. per 1,000 gallons will be made for water supplied to any vessel. Minimum charge, 2s. 5d.

Amended Regulations under the Coal-mines Act, 1908, and its Amendments.—Permitted Explosives.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon me by Order in Council dated the 13th day of May, 1918, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 23rd day of the same month, I, William Donald Stuart MacDonald, the Minister of Mines for the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby approve of the explosive specified in the Schedule hereto being deemed a “permitted explosive” during the period of the present war and for six months thereafter, subject to the conditions set out in the Schedule.
