Major A. M. Trotter, M.B., is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel whilst commanding N.Z. Mounted Field Ambulance, vice Lieutenant-Colonel C. T. H. Newton, D.S.O., M.D., F.R.C.S., proceeding to France on duty. To date 1st January, 1918, and relinquishes the temporary rank on assumption of command by Lieutenant-Colonel R. H. Walton, M.D., F.R.C.S. Dated 12th February, 1918.

Captain H. M. Hay is granted the temporary rank of Major, vice Major A. M. Trotter, M.B., temporarily commanding N.Z. Mounted Field Ambulance, to date 1st January, 1918, and relinquishes the temporary rank on Major A. M. Trotter, M.B., resuming the appointment of 2nd in Command. Dated 12th February, 1918.

N.Z. DENTAL CORPS.

Captain G. K. I. Stocker is placed on the N.Z. Roll. Dated 15th February, 1918.

N.Z. VETERINARY CORPS.

Captain A. A. Johnson, returned to New Zealand on leave, is placed on the N.Z. Roll. Dated 15th February, 1918.

Appointments, Promotions, and Resignations of Officers of the Territorial Force.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, and resignations of the undermentioned officers of the Territorial Force.

APPOINTMENTS.

Captain Thomas John Linton Buxton, 11th Regiment (Taranaki Rifles), is appointed Ship’s Adjutant and Quartermaster on a transport. Dated 10th June, 1918.

Lieutenant Richard Edward Joseph Martin, Unattached List (b), is appointed Ship’s Adjutant and Quartermaster on a transport, and is granted the temporary rank of Captain whilst so employed. Dated 4th June, 1918.

The undermentioned officers of the N.Z. Medical Corps are appointed members of a Special District Medical Board, with pay of Lieutenant-Colonel at Expeditionary Force rates whilst so employed:—

Major William Edward Redman, M.R.C.S., Eng. Dated 14th May, 1918.

Captain (temp. Major) Bernard John Dudley, M.R.C.S., Eng. Dated 21st May, 1918.

Captain Bertram Charles Alexander Leeper, L.R.C.S., Ire., N.Z. Medical Corps, is appointed a member of a Special District Medical Board. Dated 4th June, 1918.

Lieutenant (temp. Captain) David Alexander Ewen, “D” Battery, N.Z. Field Artillery, relinquishes the appointment of Embarkation Officer, and the temporary rank of Captain whilst so employed. Dated 1st June, 1918.

PROMOTIONS AND RESIGNATIONS.

9TH (WELLINGTON EAST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.

Lieutenant William George Wood is struck off the strength of the N.Z. Expeditionary Force, with effect from 13th June, 1918, and is absorbed into the regiment with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 11th March, 1915 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 61, of the 6th May, 1915).

1ST (CANTERBURY) REGIMENT.

2nd Lieutenant Frank Roland Bushell is struck off the strength of the N.Z. Expeditionary Force, with effect from 25th June, 1918, and is absorbed into the regiment with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Lieutenant, as from 8th August, 1917 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 139, of the 6th September, 1917).

3RD (AUCKLAND) REGIMENT (COUNTESS OF RANFURLY’S OWN).

George Charles Codlin to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.). Dated 29th January, 1918.

8TH (SOUTHLAND) REGIMENT.

Reserve of Officers.

Captain John Sarsfield Murphy is struck off the strength of the N.Z. Expeditionary Force, with effect from 16th February, 1917, and is absorbed with his original rank—viz., Major, as from 4th September, 1907 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 92, of 24th October, 1907).

N.Z. RIFLE BRIGADE (EARL OF LIVERPOOL’S OWN) TERRITORIAL.

2nd Lieutenant Harry Joseph Murrell is struck off the strength of the N.Z. Expeditionary Force, with effect from 30th June, 1918, and is posted to the regiment with his original rank and seniority—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 25th April, 1917.

2nd Lieutenant Francis Patrick Kelly is struck off the strength of the N.Z. Expeditionary Force, with effect from 30th June, 1918, and is posted to the regiment with his original rank and seniority—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 12th March, 1917.

Lieutenant Ralph McGlashan is struck off the strength of the N.Z. Expeditionary Force, with effect from the 29th June, 1918, and is absorbed into the regiment with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 27th May, 1916 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 139, of the 14th December, 1916).
