Appointments, Promotions, and Transfers of Officers of the
N.Z. Expeditionary Force.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the appointments, promotions, and
transfers of the undermentioned officers on active service
with the N.Z. Expeditionary Force (vide List No. 59, N.Z.
E.F. Orders).

AUCKLAND MOUNTED RIFLES.

2nd Lieutenant J. R. Thorburn is seconded for duty to New
Zealand. Dated 28th December, 1917.

Lieutenant G. Hovey, from Assistant Officer in Charge N.Z.
Records, is attached to “A” Branch, Administrative
Headquarters, N.Z.E.F., and remains seconded. Dated
20th December, 1917.

Lieutenant D. S. Manners is granted the temporary rank of
Captain whilst temporarily employed as Staff Captain,
N.Z.M.R. Brigade. Dated 18th October, 1917.

Lieutenant (temp. Captain) D. S. Manners to be Staff Captain,
N.Z.M.R. Brigade. Dated 4th November, 1917.

The undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants to be Lieutenants:—
T. W. Aickin. Dated 14th November, 1917.
S. L. Wright. Dated 15th November, 1917.
S. C. Reid. Dated 15th November, 1917.

Memorandum.

Major D. Munro temporarily commanded the regiment from
25th November, 1917, to 16th December, 1917.

CANTERBURY MOUNTED RIFLES.

2nd Lieutenant A. Martin, D.C.M., is seconded for duty to
New Zealand. Dated 28th December, 1917.

Captain L. R. C. McFarlane is granted the temporary rank of

Lieutenant P. J. North is placed on the N.Z. Roll. Dated
22nd December, 1917.

2nd Lieutenant W. J. Hollis is seconded for duty to New
Zealand. Dated 28th December, 1917.

The undermentioned, having been declared by a Medical
Board to be unfit for general service within twelve months,
are seconded, under provisions of N.Z.E.F. Regulation 34:—
Major J. O. Scott. Dated 14th November, 1917.
Captain W. R. Foley, M.C. Dated 26th December, 1917.

Captain R. J. Bird, having been selected for a commission in
the Indian Army Reserve of Officers, is seconded to date
from 21st December, 1917, and is struck off the strength
of the N.Z.E.F., on embarkation for India. Dated 1st
January, 1918.

Captain (temp. Major) C. L. Sommerville to be Major. Dated
23rd August, 1917.

Lieutenant R. F. R. Beetham, M.C., to be Captain. Dated
23rd August, 1917.

Lieutenant (temp. Captain) A. D. Herrick, M.C. (since killed
in action), to be Captain, vice Captain R. F. R. Beetham,
M.C., seconded under provisions of N.Z.E.F. Regulation 34.
Dated 8th October, 1917.

Lieutenant W. R. Foley, M.C., to be Captain. Dated 14th
November, 1917.

Lieutenant P. J. Cotton to be Captain. Dated 26th December, 1917.

OTAGO MOUNTED RIFLES.

Lieutenant E. R. Wells, M.C., is seconded for special service
in the British Army. Dated 29th January, 1918.

Lieutenant (Acting Captain) G. G. Denniston relinquishes the
Appointment of Adjutant, XXII Corps Mounted Regiment,
and the acting rank of Captain, but remains seconded for
duty to New Zealand. Dated 25th January, 1918.

N.Z. CYCLIST CORPS.

2nd Lieutenant A. C. P. Hay is seconded for special service
in the British Army. Dated 29th January, 1918.

Lieutenant C. A. Dickeson, M.C., to be Adjutant, XXII
Corps, Cyclist Battalion, vice Lieutenant H. McLennan,
A.I.F. (relinquished the appointment), and is granted the
acting rank of Captain and seconded whilst so employed.
Dated 16th January, 1918.

10725, C.S.M. T. H. Dickinson to be 2nd Lieutenant. Dated
15th January, 1918.

10765, Private M. P. Branson to be 2nd Lieutenant. Dated
29th January, 1918.

N.Z. FIELD ARTILLERY.

Lieutenant E. J. Phillips reverts to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, with seniority as from 16th November, 1917, at
his own request, on the grounds that an officer arriving
with Reinforcements, without previous experience as an
officer in the firing line, should not retain rank senior to
those having such experience. Dated 31st January, 1918.

Major H. C. Glendining, D.S.O., N.Z.S.C., is granted the temporary rank of Lieut.-Colonel on resuming temporary command of the N.Z.D.A.C. Dated 6th January, 1918.

Memorandum.

Captain M. J. Lyons, R.N.Z.A., performed the duties of
Quartermaster, N.Z. Base, Etaples, vice Captain C. H.
Booth, Auckland Regiment, to XXII Corps Reinforcement
Camp, from 12th December, 1917, to 2nd January, 1918.

N.Z. ENGINEERS.

Field Companies.

Lieutenant J. J. Moore, M.M., having been declared by a

remains seconded. Dated 9th October, 1917.

AUCKLAND REGIMENT.

Lieutenant F. Codd, having been absent without leave since
17th September, 1917, is removed from the N.Z.E.F.
Dated 17th September, 1917.

Captain J. C. McCarthy relinquishes the appointment of O.C.
No. 1 N.Z. (Divisional) Employment Company and N.Z.
Divisional Reinforcement Camp, on return to regimental
duty, and ceases to be seconded. Dated 8th December, 1917.

Lieut.-Colonel D. B. Blair, D.S.O., M.C., N.Z.S.C., to be
Divisional Machine-gun Officer, N.Z. Division, and remains
seconded. Dated 3rd January, 1918.

Lieutenant (Acting Captain) S. T. Seddon, M.C., relinquishes
the appointment of Adjutant, 2nd Battalion, and the
acting rank of Captain, on departure to England, to date
from 12th January, 1918; and is seconded for special
service in the British Army, dated 29th January, 1918.

2nd Lieutenant C. F. Seaward, M.C., is seconded for special
service in the British Army. Dated 29th January, 1918.

Captain C. H. Booth, from Quartermaster, N.Z. Base, Etaples,
is attached for duty to N.Z. Divisional Wing, XXII Corps
Reinforcement Camp, and remains seconded whilst so employed. Dated 12th December, 1917.

Lieutenant J. C. Carter to be Lewis-gun Officer, 1st Battalion.
Dated 20th January, 1918.

Lieutenant H. N. Clapham relinquishes the appointment of
Lewis-gun Officer, 3rd Battalion. Dated 2nd January, 1918.

2nd Lieutenant H. M. McAdam, M.C., to be Lewis-gun Officer,
