Reroking Prohibition of Postal Packets and Telegrams under War Regulations Act.

WILLIAM DONALD STUART MacDONALD, Acting Postmaster-General of New Zealand, do hereby revoke the Warrant made on the 10th day of April, 1917, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 12th day of April, 1917, ordering, in pursuance of clause 2 of the War Regulations of the 17th day of December, 1914, that no postal packet or telegram addressed to any of the addresses in the Schedule hereunder should be forwarded or delivered by the Post Office or transmitted by telegraph.

Dated this 14th day of June, 1918.

Breaches of the Customs Acts.

IN accordance with the provisions of section 244 of the Customs Act, 1913, it is hereby notified for public information that W. and R. Fletcher (N.Z.), Limited, Merchants, Auckland, having admitted the commission of offences against the Customs Act, 1913, as extended by section 24 of the Regulation of Trade and Commerce Act, 1914—to wit, the illegal exportation of tallow from New Zealand—the Minister of Customs has accepted from the said company, in full satisfaction of the penalties thereby incurred, the sum of one thousand pounds (£1,000) sterling.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Awakino County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913.

AWAKINO COUNTY COUNCIL.

Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Kiritehere Special Rating Area in the Awakino County taken on the 31st day of May, 1918, on the proposal of the Awakino County Council to borrow the sum of £330 for the purpose of diverting the Kiritehere Stream, and for doing other protective works to prevent damage by flood to the Kiritehere Road and to remetal portions of the Kiritehere Road, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 13, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 5. I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Notice fixing the Closing hours of Cycle, Motor-cycle, and Cycle and Motor-cycle Accessory Shops in the Borough of Timaru, under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the cycle, motor-cycle, and cycle and motor-cycle accessory shops in the Borough of Timaru, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) Should the occupier of any shop bound by the provisions of this requisition observe, pursuant to the provisions of section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any of the days therein mentioned, other than Thursday, as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Thursday for any such shop shall be 5.30 p.m.; (2) the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day, and the evening of the working-day immediately preceding New Year's Day, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; (3) should the occupier of any shop bound by the provisions of this requisition, under and by virtue the provisions of section 11 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, observe Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Thursday for any such shop shall be 5.30 p.m. Provided always that the provisions of this requisition shall be subject to the requirements of the Act in respect of the statutory closing day:

And whereas the Timaru Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the cycle, motor-cycle, and cycle and motor-cycle accessory shops within the Borough of Timaru:

Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 24th day of June, 1918, all cycle, motor-cycle, and cycle and motor-cycle accessory shops within the Borough of Timaru shall be closed accordingly.

The notice gazetted on the 13th day of April, 1911, shall be cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.
