The lands may be selected for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for sixty-six years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of sixty-six years and a right to acquire the freehold.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, on Wednesday, 24th July, 1918, at 10 o'clock a.m.

TARANKI LAND DISTRICT.

FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Ohura County.-Tangitu Survey District.

SECTION 4, Block VIII : Area, 259 acres 3 roods 17 perches; capital value, £520 ; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £26 ; half-yearly rent on lease, £10 8s.

Situated on the Mangapapa Road. The access is from Ongarue Railway-station, which is about six miles and a half distant—six miles being dray-road, balance bridle-track. The section comprises fairly steep country. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is heavy, comprising tawhero, rimu, rewarewa, hinau, tawa, rata, &c., with a heavy undergrowth of supplejack, konini, &c. The section is well watered by the Mangapapa Stream.

Waitomo County.-Totoro Survey District.

Section 4, Block IV : Area, 209 acres 2 roods; capital value, £945 ; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £47 5s. ; half-yearly rent on lease, £18 18s.

Situated on the Kahuwera Road within three miles of Piopio, where there are saleyards, post and telephone office, school, bank, stores, &c. Access is from Te Kuiti, which is about twenty-two miles distant—by metalled road for sixteen miles and a half, the rest of the way being formed dray-road only. The section comprises level to easy undulating country. Nearly all the level land is heavy raupo swamp. The soil is of very good quality, resting on clay and papa formation. The forest is light, comprising manuka, fern, and raupo. The section is well watered by the Mapiu and small streams.

Ohura County.-Rangi Survey District.

Section 1, Block II : Area, 317 acres 1 rood 10 perches; capital value, £795 ; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £39 15s. ; half-yearly rent on lease, £15 18s.

Situated at the junction of the Okoroa and Ongarue River roads, within a few chains of the junction of the Stratford-Okahukura and Main Trunk Railway. Access from Okahukura Railway-station, which is about one-quarter of a mile distant by formed dray-road. The section comprises easy hilly to steep country, fern-covered, with patches of bush and scrub on eastern boundary; heavy bush on western boundary. The soil, pumiceous in places, is of fair quality, resting on a papa formation. The patches of forest are heavy, comprising tawa, hinau, tawhero, mahoe, with an undergrowth of raurekau, angeange, supplejack, fern, &c. The section is well watered with small streams.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Waitomo County.-Mapara Survey District.

Section 9, Block III: Area, 274 acres; capital value, £345 ; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £17 5s. ; half-yearly rent on lease, £6 18s.

Situated on the Mangapehi Road. Access from Kopaki Railway-station, about eight miles distant, by a road formed for wheel traffic for about six miles, balance pack-track. The section comprises level to easy undulating land, and is nearly all ploughable. It is swampy in places. The vegetation consists of fern and light manuka. The soil is of rather indifferent quality, being of pumice formation; well watered.

Stratford County.-Omona Survey District.

Section 11, Block VII : Area, 490 acres; capital value £615; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £30 15s. ; half-yearly rent on lease, £12 6s.

Section 12, Block VII : Area, 312 acres; capital value, £390 ; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £19 10s. ; half-yearly rent on lease, £7 16s.

Section 5, Block VIII : Area, 760 acres; capital value, £760 ; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £38 ; half-yearly rent on lease, £15 4s.

Situated at the junction of the Waitiri and Ratanui roads. Access from Eltham, about twenty-four miles distant, by metalled road for twenty-one miles, balance formed dray-

road. Access also from Douglas Railway-station, about twelve miles distant, eight of which are metalled, balance rough horse-track. The section comprises small flats of good land along the Ratanui Road, falling away steeply towards back boundary by steep spurs and gullies. About 30 acres of bush has been felled, but not burnt; balance is in heavy forest of rimu, tawa, rata, hinau, pukatea, &c., and a dense undergrowth of mahoe, kotukutuku, raurekau, supplejacks, pongas, &c. Soil of good quality, on papa formation ; well watered.

Stratford County.-Taurakawa Survey District.

Section 9, Block II: Area, 1,570 acres; capital value, £1,965 ; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £98 5s. ; half-yearly rent on lease, £39 6s.

Exempt from rent for four years, under section 7 of the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915.

Situated on the Whakaihuwaka Road. Access from Whangamomona Railway-station, about twenty miles distant, by formed dray-road. Access also from Douglas Railway-station, twenty-seven miles and a half distant, twenty-five miles being dray-road, two miles bridle-track, balance unformed. The land is steep and broken, but with flat for building-sites and yards, comprising high hills and deep valleys, covered with a heavy forest of tawa, rimu, rata, towai, rewarewa, &c., and a dense undergrowth of mahoe, raurekau, kaiwhiri, houhou, kotukutuku, supplejacks, ferns, kiekie, tupari, pongas, manuka, &c. Good soil, on papa formation ; well watered.
