Appointments and Promotions of Officers to the N.Z. Expeditionary Force.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, &c., of the undermentioned officers with the N.Z. Expeditionary Force, such notification not having been previously gazetted:—

COMMANDS AND STAFF.

Lieutenant-Colonel (temp. Brigadier-General) G. S. Richardson, C.B., C.M.G., p.s.c., g., N.Z. Staff Corps, was appointed Commandant, Headquarters N.Z. Expeditionary Force in United Kingdom, dated 1st March, 1916 (vide List No. 20, N.Z.E.F.O., of 1st June, 1916), and to retain the temporary rank of Brigadier-General with seniority from 20th December, 1915 (vide “London Gazette” of 9th February, 1916, page 1565).

Major and Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel W. R. Pinwell, p.s.c., Imperial General Staff, vacated the appointment of General Staff Officer, 1st Grade, N.Z. Division, and was struck off the strength of the N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 18th July, 1916; List No. 23, 31/7/16.

Captain and Brevet-Major (temp. Lieut.-Colonel), R. O’H. Livesay, D.S.O., Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment, to be General Staff Officer, 1st Grade, N.Z. Division. Dated 22nd July, 1916; List No. 23, 31/7/16.

MEMORANDA.

Captain and Brevet-Major Lord C. C. Bentinck, D.S.O., 9th Lancers, served with the N.Z. Expeditionary Force as D.A.A. and Q.M.G. from 9th May, 1915, to 25th September, 1915, and as A.A.G. from 25th September, 1915, to 26th November, 1915, New Zealand and Australian Division, and as A.M.S., N.Z. Expeditionary Force, in addition to holding the appointment of A.A. and Q.M.G., Australian and New Zealand Army Corps from 20th November, 1915, to 19th February, 1916; List No. 27, 10/10/17.

Captain the Hon. A. N. H. M. Herbert, Irish Guards, was attached to the N.Z. Expeditionary Force as Turkish Interpreter from 5th April to 11th October, 1915; List No. 27, 10/10/17.

THE UNDERMENTIONED PROMOTIONS, POSTINGS, ETC., WERE MADE, WITH EFFECT FROM DATES SPECIFIED.

Major R. O. Chesney, p.s.c., g., N.Z. Staff Corps, was posted to the Wellington Infantry Battalion, and seconded for duty as Brigade-Major, N.Z. Infantry Brigade. Dated 10th November, 1915; List No. 7.

Captain C. W. Melvill, D.S.O., p.s.c., N.Z. Staff Corps, was taken on the strength of the N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 10th November, 1915; List No. 1, 20/11/15.

The undermentioned officers of the Egyptian Army reported for duty and were posted to the N.Z. Field Company, Engineers. Dated 16th January, 1915; List No. 49, 21/1/15:—

Captain A. G. McNeill, Royal Engineers.

Captain A. G. McNeill, Royal Engineers, was appointed acting C.R.E., N.Z. and A. Division, and was granted the temporary rank of Major whilst so employed. Dated 30th November, 1915; List No. 2.

Captain (temp. Major) A. G. McNeill, Royal Engineers, relinquished the temporary appointment of C.R.E., N.Z. and A. Division and the temporary rank of Major. Dated 9th January, 1916; List No. 3.

Captain W. H. Hastings, 92nd Punjabis, to be G.S.O., 3rd Grade, N.Z. and A. Division. Dated 31st July, 1915; List No. 2.

The undermentioned officers of the British Section N.Z. Expeditionary Force were posted for duty. Dated 15th January, 1915; List No. 44, 15/1/15:—

N.Z. ENGINEERS.

No. 4/774 Sergeant H. S. King was promoted 2nd Lieutenant and was seconded from his unit for duty with the Munitions Department, Woolwich. Dated 19th January, 1916; List No. 22, 17/7/16.

DIVISIONAL SIGNAL COMPANY.

Captain H. M. Edwards, R.E., to Major. Dated 8th November, 1915; List No. 19, 13/5/16.

N.Z. TUNNELLING COMPANY.

Captain D. B. Waters was granted the temporary rank of Major whilst commanding the company from 30th June, 1916, to 20th August, 1916; List No. 27, 10/10/16.
