Notice respecting Proposed Alteration of Boundaries, Castle-
cliff Town District, County of Waitotara.
Department of Internal Affairs,
Wellington, 18th May, 1918.
IT is hereby notified that a petition has been presented
to His Excellency the Governor-General, under the
Town Boards Act, 1908, praying that the area described in
the Schedule hereto may be excluded from the County of
Waitotara and included in the Castlecliff Town District.
All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any
written objections to or petitions against the proposed alter-
ation, which they desire to lodge, within one month from the
first publication of this notice, such objections or petitions
to be addressed to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington.
SCHEDULE.
AREA PROPOSED TO BE INCLUDED IN CASTLECLIFF TOWN
DISTRICT.
ALL that area in the Wellington Land District, being part
of Section 227, Block V, Westmere Survey District, com-
mencing at old peg IV shown on deposited plan No. 3394.
Bounded towards the north-east by lines bearing 202° 44′,
distance 106·75 links, bearing 325° 23′, distance 2100 links,
bearing 325° 19′, distance 1550 links, bearing 325° 23′ to the
intersection of the present boundary of the Castlecliff Town
District; thence towards the south-west by the Castlecliff
Town District to old peg IV aforesaid, the place of com-
mencement.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the
Waitoa Drainage Board, is published in accordance
with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

WAITOA DRAINAGE BOARD.
Result of Poll on Proposal to raise Special Loan of £5,000
for improving Drainage-works in the Waitoa No. 2 Special
Rating Area.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act,
1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the
Waitoa No. 2 Special Rating Area was taken on the 30th day
of April, 1918, on the proposal of the Waitoa Drainage Board
to borrow the sum of £5,000 for widening, deepening, and
improving present watercourses and drains and constructing
new watercourses and drains, and contingencies and engineer-
ing charges in connection therewith, within the Waitoa No. 2
Special Rating Area.
The number of valid votes recorded for the proposal was 94,
and the number of valid votes recorded against the proposal
was 18.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the
Te Rapa Drainage Board, is published in accordance
with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

TE RAPA DRAINAGE BOARD.
Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913,
I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Te
Rapa Drainage District’s No. 3 Special Rating Area was
taken on the 9th day of May, 1918, on the proposal of the Te
Rapa Drainage Board to borrow the sum of £500 for the
purpose of improving existing drains, and making new ones,
in the Board’s No. 3 Special Rating Area.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 15, and
the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 4.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
Dated at Hamilton this 10th day of day, 1918.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Chemists’ Shops in the
Borough of Palmerston North, under the Shops and Offices
Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority
of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops in the
Borough of Palmerston North, has been forwarded to me,
desiring that all such shops in the borough, save and except
that shop established at 173 Church Street, in the Borough
of Palmerston North, for the purpose of the sale of medicines
and surgical appliances that are urgently needed, be closed
in the evenings of working-days as follows: On Mondays,
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, at 6 p.m., and on Satur-
days at 10 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1.) (a.) The
working-day immediately preceding each of the following
days, Boxing Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour
Day, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign, and any day
which, pursuant to a Proclamation by the Governor-General,
or declaration by the Government, or on the request of the
Mayor or Chairman of the local authority, is generally
observed as a public holiday or half-holiday, when the
closing-hour shall be 6 p.m.; and (b.) the working-day
immediately preceding Christmas Day and the working-day
immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing
hour shall be 11 p.m. (2.) Should the occupier of any shop
bound by the provisions of this requisition observe, pursuant
to the provisions of section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act,
1908, any day therein mentioned and referred to in exception
(1) above, other than Wednesday as the statutory closing-
day, then and in such case the closing-hour for any such
shop on Wednesday shall be 6 p.m.:
And whereas the Palmerston North Borough Council has
certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a
majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops within
the Borough of Palmerston North:
And whereas I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister
of Labour, am satisfied that all the occupiers of chemists’
shops in the Borough of Palmerston North affected by sec-
tion 3 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1915, as
amended by section 3 of the Shops and Offices Amendment
Act, 1917, have been afforded an equal right to share in the
profits of the business carried on by such specified shop:
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops
and Offices Act, 1908, and of section 3 of the Shops and
Offices Amendment Act, 1915, I do hereby direct that on and
after the 27th day of May, 1918, all chemists’ shops in the
Borough of Palmerston North, except such specified shop,
shall be closed accordingly.
