BASS STRAIT.—CAPE WICKHAM LIGHT, KING ISLAND.—
INTENDED ALTERATION IN CHARACTER.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that the fixed white light on Cape Wickham will be replaced by a group-flashing white light (U) on or about 1st July, 1918.

Position.—On the north extreme of King Island. Lat. 39° 36′ S., long. 143° 57′ E.

Details.—The fixed white light will be replaced by a new light having the undermentioned characteristics.

Character.—Group-flashing white light showing two flashes in quick succession every ten seconds, thus—flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 8 secs.

Elevation.—280 ft.

Visibility.—24 miles.

Power.—13,000 candles.

Note.—The light will be unwatched, and the lightkeepers withdrawn.

Remarks.—The other details of the light will remain unchanged. No further notice will be given.

TASMANIA.

EAST COAST, FREYCINET PENINSULA.—CAPE FORESTIER.—
LIGHT (U) ESTABLISHED.

With reference to Notice No. 12 of 1917, mariners and others are hereby notified that the group-flashing light with white and red sectors on Cape Forestier is now permanently established.

Position.—On the summit of the rock locally known as “The Lemons” (260 ft.), the extreme of Cape Forestier, Freycinet Peninsula. Lat. 42° 11′ S., long. 148° 23′ E., on Chart 1079.

Structure.—Lantern 13 ft. high, painted white, erected on the summit of the rock.

Character.—Group-flashing light with white and red sectors showing four flashes in quick succession every twenty seconds, thus—flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 15 secs.

Sectors.—Red from land to 188° (S. 2° E. mag.), white from 188° (S. 2° E. mag.) through west and north to 18° (N. 8° E. mag.), except when viewed from the south of Schouten Island, when the white sector is obscured by Schouten Island on a bearing of 5° (N. 5° W. mag.). Obscured elsewhere.

Elevation.—265 ft.

Visibility.—White, 20 miles; red, 10 miles.

Power.—White, 5,000 candles; red, 2,000 candles.

Remarks.—The light is unwatched.

JAPAN.

EAST SIDE OF BUNGO CHANNEL.—NEW LIGHT TO BE SHOWN.

Notice is hereby given that newly established lighthouse on Sada Misaki, Province of Iyo, will be shown as follows on the 1st of April, 1918.

Sada Misaki Lighthouse.

Position.—Lat. 33° 20′ 30″ N., long. 132° 0′ 36″ E. (according to the Japanese Admiralty Chart No. 151).

Description.—Octagonal concrete tower, painted white.

Height of Light.—50 shaku above the base, 150 shaku above the water.

Character of Light.—Third-order group-flashing white, showing a triple flash in quick succession during 8 seconds, followed by an eclipse of 12 seconds.

Illuminated Arc.—An arc 309°, from S. 89° W. through N.E. and S. to S. 38° W. (magnetic bearings taken from seaward).

Power.—70,000 candles.

Visible Distance.—18½ nautical miles in clear night.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 30 of 1918.

HAURAKI GULF, KAWAU ISLAND.—MAORI ROCK TO BE BUOYED.

NOTICE is hereby given that on or about 20th May an iron can buoy painted red will be moored in Takatu Passage, Hauraki Gulf, one cable south-east from Maori Rock on which the beacon formerly stood.
