Amending Notices under Animals Protection Act.—Ashburton, North Canterbury, South Canterbury, Lakes District, Waitaki, and Waimate Acclimatization Districts.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

WHEREAS it is expedient to amend, in manner herein-after provided, the notifications made under the Animals Protection Act, 1908, dated the fourth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen, and published in a Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette of the same date, declaring the shooting season for imported and native game in the Ashburton, Lakes District, North Canterbury, South Canterbury, Waitaki, and Waimate Acclimatization Districts : Now, therefore, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the following native game — namely, paradise duck — may be killed within the above-stated districts ; and do hereby restrict the number that may be killed by any one person in any one day to five. And the Warrants of the fourth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen, respecting the above-stated districts are amended accordingly.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this twenty-seventh day of April, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen.

Declaring Portion of Hamurana Creek (Rotorua) to be a Sanctuary for Imported and Native Game.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

PURSUANT to the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that the area described in the Schedule hereto shall be a sanctuary for the purposes of the Animals Protection Act, and that no imported or native game shall be taken or killed within the said area.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area of land within the radius of half a mile of the wharf or jetty of Hamurana.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this twenty-sixth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen.

Special Regulations for Deer-shooting, Rotorua Acclimatization District.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations prescribing the conditions under which certain red deer may be destroyed in the Rotorua Acclimatization District.

REGULATIONS.

  1. NOTWITHSTANDING anything contained in the Animals Protection Act, 1908, the General Manager of the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts, or any person or persons duly authorized in writing by such General Manager, may, during the period hereinafter mentioned, kill red deer of either sex and of any age which, in the opinion of the said General Manager or of the said authorized persons, should be destroyed either by reason of age, deformity, or other physical imperfection.

  2. Such deer may be destroyed as aforesaid during a period from 15th April to 30th September, 1918.

  3. A return shall be furnished to the Minister of Internal Affairs by the said General Manager within one calendar month after the expiry of the aforesaid period, and such return shall state the number and sexes of all red deer so destroyed as aforesaid, the dates, and name of person by whom and the locality in which the deer were destroyed.

  4. Nothing herein contained shall extend to authorizing any person to sell any deer or any portion thereof.

  5. Any person who commits a breach of any of the provisions of these regulations shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding £20.

Notice of Change of the Purpose of a Reserve in the Town of Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay Land District.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

WHEREAS by section six of the Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908 (hereinafter referred to as “the said Act”), the Governor-General is empowered in the case of any public reserve vested in His Majesty or the Governor-General, for any of the purposes comprised in Class II of the Second Schedule to the said Act, to change the purpose for which such reserve was set apart to any other purpose : And whereas the land described in the Schedule hereto was heretofore duly set apart as a site for a drill-shed, being a purpose within Class II in the Second Schedule to the said Act, and it is expedient to change, as hereinafter provided, the purpose for which such reserve was so set apart : Now, therefore, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby, in pursuance of the powers conferred on me by section six of the said Act, as aforesaid, declare that the purpose of the said reserve is hereby changed from a site for a drill-shed to a site for public buildings of the General Government : And I do hereby further declare that this notice is issued subject to the provisions of section seven of the said Act, and shall take effect according to the provisions of that section.
