Notice to Mariners.—No. 23 of 1918.

THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Hydrographic Office, London; the Hydrographic Office, Washington; the Department of Trade and Customs, Melbourne; and the Harbours Board Offices, Adelaide, are published for general information.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
SOUTH-EAST COAST.—PORT MACDONNELL.—MOORINGS.
THE attention of masters of vessels and others is directed to a regulation dated 4th June, 1891, advising that the Board will not be responsible for any damage done to any ship arising from the defective conditions of any mooring provided by them. In this connection a warning is hereby given that the moorings at Port MacDonnell are at present unreliable, and will continue so until they can be overhauled, when a further notice will be issued.
Approximate position: Lat. 38° 4′ S., long. 140° 44½′ E.
This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 1007, 1083, and 2759B.
AUSTRALIA.—WEST COAST.
KOOMBANAH BAY.—BUNBURY MOLE LIGHT.—INTENDED ALTERATION IN POSITION.
Mariners and others are hereby notified that the existing white flashing light will be moved to the end of the new mole on or about 1st May, 1918.
Position.—The light will be moved to a position 1,000 ft. north-eastward of its present position. Lat. 33° 18′ S., long. 115° 39½′ E.
Remarks.—The other details of the light are unaltered. No further notice will be given.
HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
OAHU.—HONOLULU HARBOUR.—CHANGES IN AIDS POSTPONED.
Referring to Notice to Mariners 50 (3190) of 1917, further notice is given that the changes in aids in Honolulu Harbour have been postponed.
ENGLAND.—SOUTH COAST.
ANVIL POINT.—WRECK SOUTH-EASTWARD OF.
Position (approximate).—At a distance of about 7½ miles south-eastward from Anvil Point. Lat. 50° 29′ N., long. 1° 51′ W.
Description.—A sunken wreck, with derrick showing about 8 ft. above water.
Note.—This wreck is already shown on the latest editions of Charts Nos. 2675B and 1598.
SPITHEAD APPROACH.—SELSEA BILL.—WRECK WESTWARD OF.
Position (approximate).—At a distance of about 4 miles westward from Selsea Bill. Lat. 50° 41′ 42″ N., long. 0° 53′ 10″ W.
Description.—Sunken wreck of a steamer.
Note.—This wreck, which was sunk in 1917, is already shown on the latest editions of Charts Nos. 2675B, 2675C, and 1598.
ANVIL POINT.—WRECK SOUTH-EASTWARD OF.
Position (approximate).—At a distance of about 5 miles south-eastward from Anvil Point. Lat. 50° 33′ N., long. 1° 50′ 36″ W.
Description.—Sunken wreck of a steamer.
Note.—This wreck, which was sunk in 1917, is already shown on the latest editions of Charts Nos. 2675B and 1598.
OWERS LIGHT-VESSEL.—WRECK SOUTHWARD OF.
Position.—At a distance of about 6¾ miles southward from the Owers Light-vessel. Lat. 50° 30′ 50″ N., long. 0° 37′ 50″ W.
Description.—Sunken wreck of a steamer.
Note.—This wreck, which was sunk in 1917, is already shown on the latest editions of the charts.
OWERS LIGHT-VESSEL.—WRECK EASTWARD OF.
Position (approximate).—At a distance of about 3¾ miles eastward from the Owers Light-vessel. Lat. 50° 37′ 45″ N., long. 0° 35′ W.
Description.—Sunken wreck of a steamer.
Note.—This wreck, which was sunk in 1917, is already shown on the latest editions of the charts.
TEIGNMOUTH.—WRECK EASTWARD OF, MARKED BY BUOY.
(a.) Wreck:
Position.—At a distance of about 2 miles eastward from Teignmouth. Lat. 50° 33′ 18″ N., long. 3° 26′ 15″ W.
Description.—Sunken wreck of a steamer, with mast and funnel showing above high water.
(b.) Buoy:
Position.—At a distance of about three-quarters of a cable south-eastward from the wreck.
Description.—A green wreck-marking buoy.
Note.—This wreck, which was sunk in 1917, is already shown on the latest editions of Charts Nos. 2675B and 1598.
UNITED STATES.
FLORIDA, GULF OF MEXICO.—ANCLOTE CAYS LIGHT.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTERISTICS.
Position.—Lat. 28° 10′ N., long. 82° 50¾′ W.
New abridged description.—Lt. gp. fl. (4), ev. 30 secs., 101 ft., vis. 16 m.
Details.—The flashing white light has been replaced by a light having the undermentioned characteristics:—
Character.—A group flashing white light showing four flashes every thirty seconds.
Power.—54,000 candles.
Remarks.—The other characteristics of the light remain unchanged.
WEST INDIES AND BERMUDA ISLANDS.
CERTAIN PORTS CLOSED BY NIGHT; CAUTION APPROACHING CERTAIN PORTS; DISCONTINUANCE OF AIDS TO NAVIGATION.
Former notice hereby cancelled.
Ports closed by Night.
Mariners are hereby warned that the following ports are closed between sunset and sunrise, until further notice:—
(a.) Port Kingston (Jamaica).
(b.) Port Castries (St. Lucia).
(c.) St. George Harbour (Grenada).
(d.) Georgetown and New Amsterdam (British Guiana).
Caution approaching certain Ports.
Vessels approaching the undermentioned ports are to pay careful attention to any signals made by patrol vessels, and all orders received from them are to be immediately complied with:—
(a.) Kingston (Jamaica).
(b.) Port Castries (St. Lucia).
(c.) Bermuda Islands.
(d.) Carlisle Bay (Barbados).
(e.) Port of Spain (Trinidad).
Lights extinguished.
The lights at the following ports and islands are extinguished:—
(a.) Harbours in Jamaica.
(b.) Myhlenfeldts Point (St. Thomas).
(c.) St. John’s (Antigua).
(d.) Guadeloupe.
(e.) St. Lucia.
(f.) St. Vincent.
(g.) Grenada.
(h.) Carlisle Bay and South Point (Barbados).
(i.) Nassau Harbour leading-lights (Bahamas).
(j.) Georgetown and New Amsterdam (British Guiana).
Mariners are hereby warned that it may be necessary to extinguish certain lights, and to discontinue or remove any aids to navigation on the coasts of the Bermuda Islands and outlying reefs without further notice.
Note.—This notice is a revision of the former notice.
BRAZIL.
Former notice hereby cancelled.
(1.) Lights extinguished.
The undermentioned lights are extinguished:—
San Marcos (Maranhão) Bay.. San Marcos and Barra lights.
Port Camocin .. Rio Camocin light and light of Fairway light-buoy.
Rio Grande do Norte .. Rio Grande do Norte light.
Parahiba River .. Pedra Secca light and light of Fairway light-buoy.
Port Pernambuco .. Olinda Point and Picao lights and lights of light-buoys at entrance to Port of Recife.
