✨ Mining and Public Service Regulations
Form 70.—(1.) By deleting the paragraph commencing
with the words "There are payable," and substituting the
following :—
"The fee payable in respect of this warrant is £4.
Royalty at rates specified in the Schedule hereto is payable
quarterly on timber cut, provided that the aforementioned
fees paid in respect of this warrant shall be deemed to be in
or towards satisfaction of the royalty so payable."
(2.) By adding the following :—
SCHEDULE.
[Set out rates of royalty.]
4. The Fourth Schedule is hereby revoked, and the follow-
ing substituted :—
"The rates of royalty on timber cut under sawmill licenses
shall be as fixed by the Warden, but in no case less than the
following :—
" Class
I.—Kauri.. . .. .. 3 0
II.—Totara . .. .. 2 6
III.—Matai, puriri, maire, silver-pine,
mangeao . .. .. 2 0
IV.—Rimu, miro, tanekaha, rata .. 1 0
V.—Kahikatea, kahikawaka (cedar) .. 0 9
VI.—Beeches (called birches), taraire,
tawa, and all other timbers .. 0 6
VII.—Railway-sleepers (each) .. 0 3
Blocks for paving sluices (each) .. 0 2
VIII.—Other sleepers, posts and rails, not less than
10s. per 100 in number.
Shingles, not less than 1s. per 100 in number.
Fencing-stakes, not less than 5s. per 100 in
number.
Firewood, 2s. per cord.
"No standing timber mentioned in Classes I to V inclusive,
and no timber suitable for sawmilling purposes, to be per-
mitted to be cut under Class VIII.
"Upon production of evidence to the satisfaction of the
Warden that any timber under Classes IV or V has been cut
exclusively for mining purposes, royalty to be payable at
rate of 6d. per 100 superficial feet in lieu of rate prescribed
for those classes."
5. These regulations shall apply to all licenses granted
after the date hereof, including licenses granted in pursuance
of subclause (7) of clause 110.

Post-office where Miners' Rights may be issued revoked.
IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority
conferred upon me by the Mining Act, 1908, and of all
other powers and authorities enabling me in this behalf, I,
Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the
Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do
hereby revoke the appointment of the post-office at the
undermentioned place to be a post-office at which miners'
rights may be issued by the Postmaster in charge of such
post-office, viz.:—
UPPER MATAKITAKI, WESTPORT.
As witness my hand this twenty-eighth day of March,
one thousand nine hundred and eighteen.

Amendments to the Regulations under the Public Service Act, 1912.
IN pursuance and exercise of the authority conferred on him by
the Public Service Act, 1912 (hereinafter called "the said
Act"), the Commissioner, with the approval of the Governor-
General in Council, doth hereby, in respect of the regulations
made under the said Act on the thirty-first day of March, one
thousand nine hundred and thirteen, and the amendments thereof,
amend the regulations now in force in the manner and to the
extent set forth in the Schedule hereto Such regulations and
amendments shall have effect from and after the date of publication
thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.
SCHEDULE.
REGULATION 178 is hereby amended by adding the following :—

Amendment to Regulation 181, gazetted the 8th April, 1914, is
hereby further amended by adding the following :—
(22.) Woodwork.—Drawing.—How to test the accuracy of
drawing-instruments, and rectify errors; construction of plain
scales ; drawing to scale from dimensioned sketches or from models
or articles made in the workshop; hand sketching; plans,
elevations, sections (easy cases only), and oblique projections of
geometrical solids the surfaces of which are bounded by straight
lines, and of articles made in the workshop.
Tools and Timbers.—The classification, description (illustrated
by hand sketches), proper uses, and correct handling of tools ; care
of tools; hardening, grinding, and sharpening ; the functions of
their several parts; the mechanical principles underlying their
construction and manipulation.
A knowledge of the geographical distribution, appearance, and
general characters (including structure of trunk and limbs) of trees
from which the timbers in common use in New Zealand are
obtained ; the countries and ports from which New Zealand
receives its supplies of foreign timbers; the forms in which timber
is brought into the market ; the growth, felling, conversion,
seasoning, storage, and preservation of timber; measurement of
timber; selection of timber for particular purposes; methods of
