Appointments, Promotions, and Transfers of Officers of the New Zealand Staff Corps and Territorial Force.
Wellington, 9th January, 1918.
HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, and transfers of officers of the N.Z. Staff Corps and Territorial Force.
APPOINTMENTS.
Lieutenant (temp. Captain) Henry Peacock, N.Z. Staff Corps, is granted the temporary rank of Major whilst holding the appointment of Camp Commandant, Narrow Neck Camp. Dated 6th December, 1917.
Major Daniel James Sweetzer, Special Reserve Imperial Army (Retired List), relinquished the appointment of Infantry Instructor in N.Z. Expeditionary Force training-camps as from 11th July, 1917, and performed the duties of Camp Adjutant, Featherston Camp, from that date to 2nd December, 1917, and is appointed Camp Adjutant, Trentham Camp, with effect from 3rd December, 1917.
Captain (temp. Major) Francis Henry Lampen, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Camp Adjutant, Trentham Camp, as from 2nd December, 1917, and is appointed to the Instructional Staff, N.Z. Expeditionary Force training-camps, with effect from the same date, and retains the temporary rank of Major whilst so employed.
2nd Lieutenant Charles Gray, 11th Regiment (Taranaki Rifles), is granted the temporary rank of Captain whilst holding the appointment of Assistant Provost-Marshal in a Military District. Dated 6th December, 1917.
Captain James Sutherland, M.B., M.S., Edin., N.Z. Medical Corps, is appointed a member of a Special District Medical Board and granted the pay of Lieut.-Colonel at Expeditionary Force rates whilst so acting. Dated 25th July, 1917.
PROMOTIONS AND TRANSFERS.
NEW ZEALAND ARMY PAY DEPARTMENT.
Staff Sergeant Gerald Cave Boyes is granted the honorary rank of Lieutenant (temp.), and is attached to the N.Z. Army Pay Department whilst in charge of a section (Transport Accounts) at the War Expenses Branch. Dated 3rd August, 1917.
Staff Quartermaster-Sergeant Charles Arthur Head is granted the honorary rank of Lieutenant (temp.), and is attached to the N.Z. Army Pay Department whilst employed as Assistant Paymaster, N.Z. Expeditionary Force training-camps. Dated 6th December, 1917.
3RD (AUCKLAND) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant Hugh McColl Holden, Reserve of Officers, ceases to be attached for duty. Dated 25th July, 1917.
4TH (WAIKATO) MOUNTED RIFLES.
2nd Lieutenant William Edward Anderson to be Lieutenant. Dated 11th December, 1917.
With reference to the notification published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 176, of the 6th December, 1917, relating to Captain James George Berry, Lieutenants William Fletcher Wallis, Francis James Short, James Thomas Tabb (Reserve of Officers), for the words “Dated 27th October, 1917,” read “Dated 27th October, 1914.”
6TH (MANAWATU) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Major John Adam Somerville, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, with effect from 21st January, 1918, and is absorbed into the establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Captain, as from the 24th January, 1916 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 58, of the 11th May, 1916).
