Lieutenant (temp.) Herbert Carvosso, Unattached List (b), is granted the temporary rank of Captain, whilst holding the appointment of Supply Officer in Expeditionary Force training-camps.

Lieutenant (temp.) Charles Isbister, Unattached List (b), General List, is granted the temporary rank of Captain whilst holding the appointment of Supply Officer in Expeditionary Force training-camps.

EMBARKATION STAFF.

Lieutenant (temp.) Hubert Sladden, N.Z. Garrison Artillery (Wellington G.A. Division), is granted the temporary rank of Captain whilst employed on embarkation duties at Wellington.

N.Z. FORCES MOTOR SERVICE CORPS.

Lieutenant James Marsden Caughey is granted the temporary rank of Captain whilst performing general duties in the Auckland Military District.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of all Shops in the Town District of Bull’s, under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the Town District of Bull’s, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all shops in the district shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m., and Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions:—(a) the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the evening of the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; (b) should the occupier of any shop observe Saturday as the statutory closing-day the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 9 p.m.:

And whereas the Bull’s Town Board has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops within the Town District of Bull’s:

Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 18th day of March, 1918, all shops within the Town District of Bull’s shall be closed accordingly.

The notices gazetted on the 18th day of July, 1907, and the 27th day of September, 1907, respectively, fixing the closing-hours of all shops and hairdressers’ shops respectively in the Town District of Bull’s, shall be deemed to be cancelled as from the 18th day of March, 1918.

COOK COUNTY COUNCIL.

Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Patutahi-Hangaroa Special Rating District taken on the 24th day of January, 1918, on the proposal of the Cook County Council to borrow the sum of £4,500 for metalling about five miles of the Gisborne–Wairoa Road, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 50, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 4.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Notice of Intention to take Land in the Borough of Napier for the Purposes of a Public Trust Office.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a Public Trust Office in the Borough of Napier; and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Napier, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.


SCHEDULE.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken: 18 perches.

Portion of Section 163, Town of Napier, situated in Borough of Napier (Hawke’s Bay R.D.).

In the Hawke’s Bay Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 43777, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon edged red.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Avondale Road Board has, by special order, declared the following plants to be noxious weeds within the meaning of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1908, in the district under its jurisdiction:—

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare).

Gorse (Ulex europæus).

Thistles: Any species of Carlina (stemless thistle), Carduus (common plume or Scotch thistle), Centaurea (star thistle).

Winged thistle (Carduus pycnocephalus).
