Special Order made by the Avondale Road Board.

Wellington, 6th February, 1918.
THE following special order, made by the Avondale Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Road Boards Act, 1908.

THAT, by virtue of its powers under the Noxious Weeds Act, 1908, and its amendments, and all the powers enabling it, the Avondale Road Board hereby declares that all the plants set out below are noxious weeds within its jurisdiction, to the intent that the said plants when growing upon any land within the Avondale Road District shall be deemed to be noxious weeds within the meaning of the said Acts.
Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare).
Gorse (Ulex europæus).
Ragwort (Senecio jacobæa).
Thistles: Any species of Carlina (stemless thistle), Carduus (common plume or Scotch thistle), Centaurea (star thistle).
Winged thistle (Carduus pycnocephalus).
I hereby verify that the above special order has been duly passed.

Notice making and levying Rates under the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act, 1910.
I, WILLIAM FERGUSON MASSEY, Minister of Lands, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act, 1910, do hereby make and levy upon the unimproved value of all lands liable to be rated pursuant to that Act a rate on a graduated scale as specified in the Schedule hereto according to the classification of the land.
The said rates will be payable in one sum on the 20th day of February, 1918, to the Collector of Rates for the Rangitaiki Land Drainage District, at the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, Government Buildings, Wellington, at which office the rate-book is open for inspection.
A copy of the rate-book may be inspected by ratepayers at the office of the Chief Drainage Engineer at Whakatane at all times at which that office is open for the transaction of public business.
SCHEDULE.
Class A.—On the unimproved value of all lands classified as Class A by the arbitrators appointed under the said Act: 3d. and 16/25 of a penny in the pound.
Class B.—On the unimproved value of all lands classified as Class B by the arbitrators appointed under the said Act: 2d. and 2/25 of a penny in the pound.
Class C.—On the unimproved value of all lands classified as Class C by the arbitrators appointed under the said Act: 13/25 of a penny in the pound.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block XII, Waimate Survey District, for the Straightening of the Hook River.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the straightening of the Hook River in Block XII, Waimate Survey District; and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Studholme Junction, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

In the Canterbury Land District; as the same are more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 43734, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured as above mentioned.

Restrictions on Importation of Goods to the United States.
Customs Department,
Wellington, 12th February, 1918.
WITH reference to the notification dated 9th January, 1918 (New Zealand Gazette of 10th January, 1918), regarding goods which are prohibited to be imported into the United States except under license, it is notified for general information that in cases where such goods are required to be consigned to an association no special form of consignment is necessary. In such cases it will be satisfactory if bills of lading are either (a) drawn to the order of the association concerned, or (b) endorsed to such association.

Land Surveyors Examination, March, 1918, Australia and New Zealand.
The Surveyors Board of New Zealand,

IT is hereby notified for general information that the Surveyors Board, in conjunction with the Australian Surveyors Boards, will conduct an examination of candidates for licenses to survey, commencing at 10 a.m. on Monday, 18th March, 1918, at Wellington.
Candidates are notified that their applications, on the proper form, must reach the Secretary of the Board not later than noon on the 7th March, and that the examination fee of £1 1s. must be paid, at least ten days before the date of the examination, to the Secretary of the Board, from whom examination regulations, application forms, and other particulars may be obtained.
The amount of postage must also be remitted if plans and field-books are desired to be returned.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 7 of 1918.
WANGANUI HARBOUR.—DREDGING.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 13th February, 1918.
THE Wanganui Harbour Board have notified that a dredge is now working in the river in the reach between Languard Bluff and the South Spit internal training-wall. The moorings are laid well across the river, and clear of the fairway or channel. The head mooring is also well clear of the channel or line of leaders, and on the starboard hand entering the river, and is marked by a red buoy.
All vessels must pass on the side of the dredge showing the signals by day two black balls vertical, and by night two red lights vertical.
