race days, Wanganui Trotting Club’s race days, and the evening of the last fourteen working-days in the month of December in each year (except Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve), when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m., and on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.:
And whereas the Wanganui Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of all the occupiers of all the (a) hairdressers’ and (b) tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Wanganui:
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 11th day of February, 1918, all hairdressers’ shops and all tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Wanganui shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 6 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions: (1.) Should the occupier of any hairdresser’s shop or any tobacconist’s shop in the Borough of Wanganui observe any day other than Thursday as the statutory closing-day, the closing-hour for any such shop on Thursday shall be 6 p.m. (2.) The working-day immediately preceding any of the following days—Boxing Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign, and any day which pursuant to a Proclamation by the Governor-General or declaration by the Government or on the request of the Mayor or Chairman of the local authority is generally observed as a public holiday or half-holiday, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m. (3.) The working-day immediately preceding each day of the Wanganui Agricultural Show, the Wanganui Jockey Club’s races, and the Wanganui Trotting Club’s races, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m. (4.) The last fourteen working-days in the month of December (except Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve), when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m. (5.) Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.
The notice gazetted on the 5th day of July, 1917, fixing the closing-hours of hairdressers’ shops and tobacconists’ shops in the Borough of Wanganui is hereby cancelled.

Alterations in Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under the Government Railways Act, 1908, and its amendments, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government Railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 11th day of February, 1918.
PARTS II, III, IV, V, AND VI.
New-Zealand-grown fresh fruit carried by rail under all heads, including Lake Wakatipu steamers, is hereby included in the exceptions from the second ten-per-centum addition to the rates as provided for in the New Zealand Gazette No. 170, of 22nd November, 1917 (Gazette extract 4/17).

IN pursuance of the powers delegated to me under section 8, clause (d), of the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908, I, Joseph George Ward, Postmaster-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby revoke the warrants issued under the authority conferred by section 9, subsection (2), of the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908, dated the 13th day of June, 1913, the 13th day of June, 1914, the 21st day of February, 1916, and the 7th day of August, 1916, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 3rd day of July, 1913, the 18th day of June, 1914, the 24th day of February, 1916, and the 10th day of August, 1916, respectively, in so far as they appoint the following Post officers to take statutory declarations of Postmasters and other Post officers; and do hereby order that, except as altered by this warrant and previous warrants of similar import, the said warrants of the 18th day of June, 1913, the 13th day of June, 1914, the 21st day of February, 1916, and the 7th day of August, 1916, shall continue in full force and effect:—
