Notification of Resignation of Seat in the House of Representatives for the Electoral District of Wellington North.

IN compliance with the provisions of section 99 of the Legislature Act, 1908, I, Frederic William Lang, Speaker of the House of Representatives, hereby notify that

ALEXANDER LAWRENCE HERDMAN

has resigned his seat in the House of Representatives for the Electoral District of Wellington North, and that the said seat is vacant by reason of such resignation.

Removal of a Name from the Commission of the Peace.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased, in terms of section 7 of the Justices of the Peace Act, 1908, to direct the removal of the name of

of Addington, from the Commission of the Peace; and it is hereby notified that such name has been removed accordingly, and that such removal will take effect on and from this 7th day of February, 1918.

Fixing Dates on which certain Returns under the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, are to be furnished.

PURSUANT to section 22 of the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, it is hereby notified that the returns showing the total gross amount of the premiums received by or due to fire-insurance companies during the year ended 31st December, 1917, shall be transmitted to the Fire Boards concerned, in the manner prescribed by the said section, on or before the 31st day of May, 1918.

Dates of Election of Members of the Dargaville Fire Board.

PURSUANT to section 18 of the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, I, George Warren Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, and the Minister charged with the administration of the said Act, do hereby appoint Tuesday, the 12th day of February, 1918, to be the day for the holding of an election of three members of the Dargaville Fire Board by the contributing local authority; and I do further appoint Monday, the 18th day of February, 1918, to be the day for the holding of an election of three members of the said Dargaville Fire Board by the fire-insurance companies which for the time being are carrying on business within the said Dargaville Fire District.

Notice respecting Proposed Alteration of Boundaries, Sluggish River and Oroua Drainage Districts, County of Manawatu.

IT is hereby notified that a petition has been presented to His Excellency the Governor-General, under the Land Drainage Act, 1908, praying that the area described in the Schedule hereto may be excluded from the Sluggish River Drainage District and included in the Oroua Drainage District. All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions against the proposed inclusion which they desire to lodge, within one month from the first publication of this notice, such objections or petitions to be addressed to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington.


SCHEDULE.

AREA TO BE EXCLUDED FROM SLUGGISH RIVER DRAINAGE DISTRICT AND INCLUDED IN OROUA DRAINAGE DISTRICT.

ALL that area in the Wellington Land District bounded towards the north by the road forming the southern boundaries of Section 58, Block VII, Te Kawau Survey District, and Sections 62, 63, 64, and 65, Block VIII; towards the south-east by the stream forming the north-western boundaries of Sections 37, 36, and 35, Block VIII aforesaid, Sections 34 and 33, Block XII, and Sections 57 and 58, Block XI; towards the south-west by the road forming the north-eastern boundary of Section 105, Block XI; and towards the west by the road forming the eastern boundaries of Sections 50, 51, 52, 43, and 42, Block VII, Te Kawau Survey District.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Hairdressers’ Shops and Tobacconists’ Shops in the Borough of Wanganui, under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the (a) hairdressers’ (b) tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Wanganui has been forwarded to me desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 6 p.m., Fridays at 9 p.m., Saturdays at 9 p.m., and in the case of any other day than Thursday being observed as the weekly half-holiday, then the closing-hour for Thursdays shall be 6 p.m., except on the evening of working-days immediately preceding the days mentioned in section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, and on the evening of working-days immediately preceding the undermentioned holidays—viz., Wanganui Agricultural Show days, Wanganui Jockey Club’s
