Opening National Endowment Land in Taranaki Land District for Selection.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the twentieth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

SCHEDULE.

TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT.—NATIONAL ENDOWMENT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Clifton County.—Pouatu Survey District.

SECTION 9, Block I: Area, 1,090 acres; capital value, £1,090; half-yearly rent, £21 16s.

Weighted with £100, valuation for improvements consisting of 40 acres felled and grassed.

Situated on the Moki Road. The access is from Whangamomona, which is about twenty-five miles distant, or Uruti, which is about twelve miles distant—to Whangamomona by 6 ft. track, two miles and a half, balance good dray-road (Tahora Railway-station, to which the rails are laid, is only thirteen miles distant); to Uruti by 6 ft. track, six miles, balance by good dray-road. The section comprises steep ridges generally, with a little easy country on the frontage. The soil is fair, resting on standstone and papa formation. The forest is heavy, comprising tawa, rimu, tawhero, rewarewa, matai, &c., with a dense undergrowth of supplejack, mahoe, ponga, angeange, raurekau, &c. The section is well watered by small streams.

Opening Lands in Taranaki Land District for Sale or Selection.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twentieth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

SCHEDULE.

TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Clifton County.—Waro Survey District.

SECTION 10, Block IX: Area, 367 acres. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £5 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £4 12s.

Section 4, Block V: Area, 505 acres. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £8. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £6 8s.

Section 4 is weighted with £62 7s. 6d., valuation for improvements consisting of roughly put-together paling house (four rooms), £30 (suitable for shed); pataka, £3; 2½ acres felled and grassed, £10; 15½ chains fencing, £19 7s. 6d.

Both sections are situated on the Tongaporutu–Mangaroa Road. Access is from Waitara Railway-station, about forty-three miles distant—by metalled road twenty-five miles, and the balance by good formed dray-road. Section 10 comprises steep ridges, with practically no flat land, running up to a high ridge on the back line. About 100 acres have been felled, but now all high fern and scrub. Section 4 comprises steep broken country, with small flat on the road frontage. On both sections the soil is of fair quality, resting on principally sandstone formation. The forest is heavy, comprising tawa, rimu, rewarewa, tawhero, and birch, with a dense undergrowth of supplejack, ponga, raurekau, mahoe, kotukutuku, &c. The sections are well watered by small streams.

Whangamomona County.—Upper Waitara Survey District.

Section 2, Block XII: Area, 1,022 acres. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £16. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £12 16s.

Weighted with £469, valuation for improvements consisting of 200 acres felled and grassed, £400; forty chains fencing, £20; house (two rooms), £30; pataka, £7; wool-shed (small), £12. The loading may be taken over by way of mortgage.

Access is either from Kohuratahi Railway-station, which is about nine miles distant (by metalled road for three miles, dray-road three miles, and balance 6 ft. track), or from Whangamomona Railway-station ten miles distant (by metalled road four miles, dray-road three miles, and balance 6 ft. track). Before access can be obtained to the section a bridge is required over the Mangaowata Stream, fordable at low water. The section comprises steep ridges, with very little flat land, and just room enough on the frontage for house, &c. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is heavy, comprising tawa, rimu, pukatea, tawhero, rewarewa, &c., with a dense undergrowth of supplejack, mahoe, raurekau, ferns, &c. The section is well watered by small streams.

Clifton County.—Upper Waitara Survey District.

Section 4, Block XII: Area, 794 acres. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £20. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £16.

Situated on the Marco and Mangaowata Roads. Access is from Whangamomona, via Marco Road, which is about ten miles distant (by metalled dray-road four miles, unmetalled dray-road two miles, and 6 ft. track four miles). Mangaowata Road is not formed. The section comprises steep country, principally suited for grazing only, with very little easy country and no good building-sites adjacent to the formed road. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa and standstone formation. The forest is heavy, comprising rimu, tawa, kahikatea, rewarewa, pukatea, &c., with a dense undergrowth of mahoe, raurekau, ferns, supplejack, &c. The section is well watered by small streams.

Notice cancelling Portion of the Rimu Mining Reserve, Westland.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on me by section eighteen of the Mining Act, 1908, and of every other power and authority enabling me in that behalf, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby revoke the notice dated the ninth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the seventeenth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen, setting apart certain unoccupied Crown lands within the Westland Mining District for mining purposes exclusively, in so far as the said notice applies to the land described in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the Westland Land District, containing by admeasurement 630 acres, more or less, being part of Reserve No. 1462, Block IX, Kanieri Survey District, and bounded as follows: Commencing at the most southerly corner of Section 1219, bounded towards the east generally by a road reserve along the left bank of the Hokitika River, 24550 links, to Section 835; towards the south by the said Section 835 for 120 links; towards the west by the Hokitika River Road, 15950·2 links, to an angle distant 55·5 links from traverse peg XXXV; and again towards the west by part of Reserve No. 1462 for 8459·5 links to the most westerly corner of Section 1219; thence towards the north-east by the said Section 1219 for 2056 links to the point of commencement; be all the aforesaid linkages more or less,
