Transmitting and Receiving Officers for the Service of Notices by Telegraph.

IN pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908 (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), and by the regulations made on the 12th May, 1914, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 21st May, 1914, the following officers at the addresses set against their names are hereby appointed Transmitting and Receiving Officers for the purpose of dealing with all notices by telegraph sent under the said Act or regulations, and of signing such certificates in relation to the service of any such notices as are required or authorized to be signed or given under the said Act or the regulations aforesaid:—

Notification of Vacancy of Seat in the House of Representatives for the Electoral District of Taranaki.


IN compliance with the provisions of section 99 of the Legislature Act, 1908, I, Frederic William Lang, Speaker of the House of Representatives of New Zealand, hereby notify that Henry James Hobbs Okey, a member of the House of Representatives for the Electoral District of Taranaki, died on the 13th day of September, 1918, during a recess of the House, and that the said seat in the House of Representatives for the said electoral district is vacant by reason of such death.

Education Act, 1914.—Election of Member of General Council of Education to fill Extraordinary Vacancy.

NOMINATIONS will be received by the Returning Officer up to 5 p.m. of Tuesday, the 15th October, 1918, from certificated teachers on the South Island Public School Male Teachers Roll for the election of a member to fill the extraordinary vacancy caused by the death of

THOMAS SCHOLFIELD FOSTER, Esq.

No person shall be eligible for election unless he is nominated in writing by at least two electors entitled to vote for his election.

The nomination-paper shall be in the following form, viz.:—

NOMINATION-PAPER.

We [Names and addresses], being electors duly entered on the [Name of roll] Roll for the election of members of the General Council of Education, do hereby nominate [Nominee's name and address] as a candidate for election to the said Council by the electors on the aforesaid roll at the election to be held on the day of , 19 .

The roll will be closed on 15th October, 1918, and will remain closed until the election is completed. If necessary to hold an election, a ballot-paper containing the names of all the duly nominated candidates will be posted to each elector entitled to vote, and the election will be held on Monday, the 4th November, the poll closing at 5 o'clock on that day.
