In pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908 (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), and by the regulations made on the 12th May, 1914, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 21st May, 1914, the following officers at the addresses set against their names are hereby appointed Transmitting and Receiving Officers for the purpose of dealing with all notices by telegraph sent under the said Act or regulations, and of signing such certificates in relation to the service of any such notices as are required or authorized to be signed or given under the said Act or the regulations aforesaid:—

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of General Storekeepers’, Drapers’, Ironmongers’, Boot-dealers’, Fancy-goods Dealers’, Saddlers’, Butchers’, Plumbers’, and Tailors’ Shops in the Borough of Milton, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.
Whereas a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (a) general storekeeper, (b) draper, (c) ironmonger, (d) boot-dealer, (e) fancy-goods dealer, (f) saddler, (g) butcher, (h) plumber, and (i) tailor in the Borough of Milton, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows, subject to the closing at not later than 1 p.m. on the day observed as the statutory closing-day: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) The working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; (2) the working-day immediately preceding each of the days mentioned in or within the meaning of section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, save and except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; (3) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 11 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Friday shall be 9 p.m.:
And whereas the Milton Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (a) general storekeeper, (b) draper, (c) ironmonger, (d) boot-dealer, (e) fancy-goods dealer, (f) saddler, (g) butcher, (h) plumber, and (i) tailor in the Borough of Milton:
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 10th day of September, 1918, all the shops in each of the trades of (a) general storekeeper, (b) draper, (c) ironmonger, (d) boot-dealer, (e) fancy-goods dealer, (f) saddler, (g) butcher, (h) plumber, and (i) tailor in the Borough of Milton shall be closed accordingly.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

The following notice, received from the Chairman of the Elstow Drainage Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

Public Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise Special Loan of £5,000 for Drainage-works in the Elstow No. 2 Special Rating Area.
Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers within the Elstow No. 2 Special Rating Area was taken on the 6th day of August, 1918, on the proposal of the Elstow Drainage Board to borrow the sum of £5,000 for widening, deepening, and improving present watercourses and drains, and constructing new watercourses and drains, and providing for contingencies and engineering charges within the Elstow No. 2 Special Rating Area.
The number of valid votes recorded for the proposal was 69, and the number of valid votes recorded against the proposal was 8.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
