NOBEL PEACE PRIZE.
ALL proposals of candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize, which is to be distributed December 10th, 1918, must, in order to be taken into consideration, be laid before the Nobel Committee of the Norwegian Parliament by a duly qualified person before the 1st of February of the same year.
Any one of the following persons is held to be duly qualified: (a) Members and late members of the Nobel Committee of the Norwegian Parliament, as well as the advisers appointed at the Norwegian Nobel Institute; (b) members of Parliament and members of Government of the different States, as well as members of the Interparliamentary Union; (c) members of the International Arbitration Court at the Hague; (d) members of the Commission of the Permanent International Peace Bureau; (e) members and associates of the Institute of International Law; (f) university professors of political science and of law, of history, and of philosophy; and (g) persons who have received the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Nobel Peace Prize may also be accorded to institutions or associations.
According to the Code of Statutes, § 8, the grounds upon which any proposal is made must be stated, and handed in along with such papers and other documents as may therein be referred to.
According to § 3, every written work, to qualify for a prize, must have appeared in print.
For particulars, qualified persons are requested to apply to the office of the Nobel Committee of the Norwegian Parliament, Drammensvei 19, Kristiania.
Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Photographic Supply Shops in the City of Auckland, under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the photographic supply shops within the City of Auckland, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 5.30 p.m.; Fridays, 9 p.m.; and 10 p.m. on the evening immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the evening preceding New Year’s Day:
And whereas the Auckland City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the photographic supply shops within the City of Auckland:
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 4th day of February, 1918, all photographic supply shops in the City of Auckland shall be closed as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5.30 p.m., on Fridays at 9 p.m., and at 10 p.m. on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the evening of the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Whakatane, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Whakatane taken on the 9th day of January, 1918, on the proposal of the Whakatane Borough Council to borrow the sum of £11,000 for the following purposes:—
Street-improvement work, repairs of flood damage, and hire or purchase of necessary plant and machinery: £10,000
Erection of municipal buildings: £1,000
the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 100, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 3.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Notice of Intention to take Land in the Borough of Palmerston North for the Purposes of a Public Trust Office.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a Public Trust Office in the Borough of Palmerston North; and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Palmerston North, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.
SCHEDULE.
APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken: 26·66 perches.
Being Lot 1 on D.P. 263, being part of Original Section 658, Town of Palmerston North, situated in the Borough of Palmerston North.
In the Wellington Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 43604, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon edged pink.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a police sergeant’s residence in the borough of Blenheim; and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Blenheim, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

Bonus for the Production of Phosphate, including Guano.—Notice No. 1912.
Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce, Wellington, 15th January, 1918.
THE following bonus is hereby offered for the discovery and working within the Dominion, including the Cook Islands, of a deposit or deposits of marketable phosphate, including guano, viz.:—
£1,000 if on land on which the Crown is entitled to such deposits;
£500 if on other land.
The following are the conditions under which the bonus is offered and will be paid:—
- That no fertilizer containing material from the deposit, or from any deposit in the neighbourhood, has been placed upon the market previous to the date hereof.
