Stopping a Government Road in Blocks XV and XVI,
Porangahau Survey District, County of Patangata.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by paragraph (c) of section one hundred
and thirty-three of the Public Works Act, 1908, it
is enacted that the Governor-General may, by Proclamation
publicly notified, stop or alter the course of any Government
road or any part thereof:
And whereas the Government road described in the
Schedule hereto is no longer required for the purpose of
a road:
Now, therefore, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl
of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New
Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the above-in-part-
recited Act, and of all other powers in anywise enabling
me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim as stopped the road
described in the Schedule hereto.
SCHEDULE.
APPROXIMATE area of the piece of road hereby stopped:
23 acres 3 roods 17 perches.
Adjoining or passing through Porangahau IB No. 4 Block,
Blocks XV and XVI, Porangahau Survey District.
In the Hawke’s Bay Land District; as the same is more
particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 43930.
deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works
at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon
coloured red.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right
Honourable Arthur William de Brito Savile,
Earl of Liverpool, Member of His Majesty's
Most Honourable Privy Council, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint
Michael and Saint George, Member of the
Royal Victorian Order, Governor-General and
Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty's
Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies;
and issued under the Seal of the said
Dominion, at the Government House at Wellington,
this second day of August, in the year
of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and
eighteen.

Amending Regulations for the Auditing of Solicitors' Trust
Accounts.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this thirtieth
day of July, 1918.
Present:
THE HONOURABLE SIR JAMES ALLEN, K.C.B., PRESIDING
IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the twenty-
second day of May, one thousand nine hundred and
fourteen, and published in the New Zealand Gazette on the
twenty-eighth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and
fourteen, regulations were made under section fourteen of
the Law Practitioners Amendment Act, 1913, providing for
an annual audit of the trust accounts of every solicitor, and
for a report of the results of such audit:
And whereas it is desirable to amend the said regulations
in manner hereinafter set forth:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of
the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice
and consent of the Executive Council of that Dominion,
and in pursuance of the authority conferred on him by section
fourteen of the Law Practitioners Amendment Act, 1913,
doth hereby amend the said regulations of the twenty-second
day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, in
the manner set forth in the Schedule hereto; and doth declare
that this Order in Council shall come into force upon the
publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.
SCHEDULE.

  1. EVERY solicitor who after the coming into operation of
    these regulations makes default for a period of one month
    in causing his trust account for any year to be audited in
    pursuance of clause 2 of the aforesaid regulations of the 22nd

day of May, 1914, shall be liable to a fine of not less than
£50 and not more than £100; and if after the coming into
operation of these regulations two or more solicitors in
partnership make any such default, each of them shall be
severally liable to the like fine.
2. Clauses 22 and 23 of the aforesaid regulations of the
22nd day of May, 1914, shall have no application to any such
default as aforesaid, but shall continue to apply to any
default for a period of less than one month, and to any default
committed before the coming into operation of these present
regulations.

Amendments in the Regulations for Junior and Senior National
Scholarships.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this thirtieth
day of July, 1918.
Present:
THE HONOURABLE SIR JAMES ALLEN, K.C.B., PRESIDING
IN COUNCIL.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
vested in him by the Education Act, 1914, His Excellency
the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand,
acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby, in respect of
the regulations for Junior and Senior National Scholarships
made by Orders in Council of the seventeenth day of May
and twentieth day of September, one thousand nine hundred
and fifteen, make the amendments shown in the Schedule
hereto; and, with the like advice and consent, doth prescribe
that this Order shall come into force on the date of the first
publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.
SCHEDULE.
CLAUSE 29 is hereby amended by adding, after the sentence
"The examination in Woodwork, Metalwork, Housecraft
(Cookery and Laundry-work), and Dressmaking and Needle-
craft will in each case consist of a written examination and
a practical test," the following :
"In addition, every candidate in the subjects of Wood-
work and Metalwork is required either to hand to the Super-
visor at the examination or to forward to the Director of
Education at Wellington by the 30th November a piece of
Woodwork (or Metalwork as the case may be) copied from a
typical example or designed by him, as a specimen of his work
performed under ordinary workshop conditions. The specimen
is to be made between the 1st October and the 30th November
nearest to the examination, and is to be accompanied by the
freehand sketch or the finished drawing from which the piece
of work was executed. With the specimen of work there must
be sent a certificate signed by the class Instructor and the
Director of the school that the work is the candidate's unaided
effort, executed without the supervision or direction of the
Instructor."

Consenting to the Raising of Loans by certain Local Authorities.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this thirtieth
day of July, 1918.
Present:
THE HONOURABLE SIR JAMES ALLEN, K.C.B., PRESIDING
IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by section twenty-six, subsection one, of the
Appropriation Act, 1915, it is provided that, notwithstanding
any Act to the contrary, it shall not be lawful or competent
for any local authority or for any Harbour Board, during the
present war with Germany, to borrow or contract to borrow
any money (otherwise than by way of bank overdraft within
the limit of its powers, if any, in that behalf), whether from
the State Advances Office or from any other source whatever,
and whether in pursuance of a special Act or under any other
authority whatever, without the precedent consent of the
Governor-General in Council:
And whereas application has been made for the consent
of the Governor-General in Council to enable the several
