This settlement comprises a portion of the Merchiston
Estate, and has recently been purchased from Mr. John
Hammond.
It is situated on the Rangitikei River, and is about four
miles from Rata Railway-station, on the Main Trunk line,
by a good metalled road, and about seven miles from Hunter-
vile.
At Rata there is a dairy factory, school, post-office, &c.
The land comprises rich alluvial flats, rising in a series of
terraces from the Rangitikei River, is from about 200 ft. to
about 400 ft. above sea-level, has originally been in heavy
bush which has been milled, but on most of the sections
there is sufficient totara left to supply fencing-material to do
the fencing.
The land is now in splendid grass, and is eminently adapted
for dairying.
Provision has been made to form and gravel the roads
through the settlement, and it is also proposed to supply
every section with a high-pressure water system from a dam
about a mile away.
Sale posters and full particulars may be obtained from
this office.
