HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, resignations, and transfers of the undermentioned officers of the New Zealand Permanent Staff and Territorial Force:—
NEW ZEALAND PERMANENT STAFF.
2nd Lieutenant James William Crampton, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the New Zealand Permanent Staff, with his original rank and seniority—viz., Staff Sergeant-major (W.O.), as from 1st May, 1912, to date from 30th April, 1917; and is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant whilst temporarily attached to the Adjutant-General’s Department at Headquarters. Dated 3rd April, 1917.
2nd Lieutenant Charles Constantine Massey, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed, with his original rank—viz., Sergeant-major (W.O.), as from 21st August, 1911, to date from 30th April, 1917; and is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant whilst temporarily employed at Base Records. Dated 1st April, 1917.
QUEEN ALEXANDRA’S 2ND (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Captain William Tollie Joll, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Major, as from 14th November, 1916 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 4, of the 11th January, 1917), to date from 31st May, 1917.
4TH (WAIKATO) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Colonel Gerard Arnold Ward relinquishes the temporary appointment of General Staff Officer, Auckland Military District. Dated 30th April, 1917.
Lieutenant Gavin Melville Abbott, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Captain, as from 17th August, 1915 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 143, of 16th December, 1915), to date from 17th May, 1916.
6TH (MANAWATU) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Captain Francis Strachan Goldingham is appointed Assistant Quartermaster-General (on probation), Auckland Military District. Dated 1st May, 1917.
8TH (SOUTH CANTERBURY) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Major Peter Jenkins Wain, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Major, as from 18th February, 1913 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 53, of 3rd July, 1913), to date from 31st May, 1917.
9TH (WELLINGTON EAST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Captain James Armstrong, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Major, as from 11th November, 1915 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 6, of the 27th January, 1916), to date from 25th May, 1917.
11TH (NORTH AUCKLAND) MOUNTED RIFLES.
The undermentioned Lieutenants to be Captains. Dated 4th May, 1917:—

Alexander Cameron Monteith Finlayson, under the provisions of paragraph 111, General Regulations, 1913.

2nd Lieutenant Leonard William Tomlin, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Lieutenant, as from 21st December, 1916 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 34, of 22nd February, 1917), to date from 31st May, 1917.
CORPS OF NEW ZEALAND ENGINEERS.
No. 1 Field Company.
Lieutenant Allan Norman Oakey, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Lieutenant, as from 15th October, 1912 (vide New Zealand Gazette of 28th November, 1912), dated 31st May, 1917; and retains the temporary rank of Captain whilst employed as Group Commander, No. 10 Group, to date from 4th May, 1917.
No. 4 FIELD COMPANY.
Captain David John Gibbs to be Major, under the provisions of paragraph 111, General Regulations, 1913. Dated 1st March, 1916.
NEW ZEALAND RAILWAY BATTALIONS.
North Island.
Lieutenant John Moultrie Ferriday, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Lieutenant, as from 7th June, 1915 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 77, of 24th June, 1915), to date from 31st May, 1917.
1ST (CANTERBURY) REGIMENT.
Lieutenant Dugald Macdonald Robertson, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority—viz., Lieutenant, as from 31st May, 1915 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 126, of 9th November, 1916), dated 31st May, 1917; and retains the temporary rank of Captain whilst employed as Assistant Adjutant-General (temp.), Canterbury Military District, to date from 25th January, 1917.
2ND (SOUTH CANTERBURY) REGIMENT.
Captain John Cecil Hill, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Lieutenant, as from 1st September, 1914 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 103, of 24th September, 1914), dated 31st May, 1917; and retains the temporary rank of Captain whilst holding the appointment of Assistant Provost-Marshal to the Forces, to date from 11th April, 1917.
8TH (SOUTHLAND) REGIMENT.
Lieutenant George Myers, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority—viz., Captain, as from 27th November, 1916, vide New Zealand Gazette No. 139, of 14th December, 1916, to date from 31st May, 1917.
14TH (SOUTH OTAGO) REGIMENT.
Major William Domigan, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Major, as from 30th August, 1916 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 126, of 9th November, 1916), to date from 31st May, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND FORCES MOTOR SERVICE CORPS.
Motor-car Section, Auckland.
Lieutenant John Dawson, jun., to be Captain. Dated 28th March, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND MEDICAL CORPS.
William Marshall Macdonald, M.B., M.S., Edin., to be temporary Captain. Dated 3rd May, 1917.
Captain Philip Timothy Putnam, M.D., his contract having expired with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength. Dated 3rd January, 1917.
