Partial Revocation of Order in Council prohibiting all Private Alienation of certain Native Lands.
LIVERPOOL, Governor ORDER IN COUNCIL. At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this twenty-first day of May, 1917. Present : THE HONOURABLE SIR JAMES ALLEN, K.C.B., PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by section three hundred and sixty-three of the Native Land Act, 1909, it is enacted that any Order in Council made under that section may at any time be varied or revoked:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority hereinbefore mentioned, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby revoke the Order in Council as set out in Part I of the Schedule hereto, but only in so far as it affects the land mentioned in Part II of the said Schedule.
SCHEDULE. PART I. ORDER in Council under section 363 of the Native Land Act, 1909, dated the 10th July, 1916. and gazetted 13th July, 1916, affecting the Waimarino Reserve A No. 1 and other blocks. PART II.

Appointing a Member of the Thames Harbour Board. LIVERPOOL, Governor. WHEREAS it is provided by the eleventh section of the Harbours Amendment Act, 1910, that if any constituent district or combined district fails at any election to elect the required number of representatives the Governor may, by Warrant under his hand, appoint such qualified persons as he thinks fit to be the representatives of that district in lieu of those who ought to have been elected; and the persons so appointed shall hold office in all respects as if they had been duly elected in conformity with the said Act: And whereas one member of the Thames Harbour Board should have been elected by the electors of the County of Thames: And whereas the County of Thames failed to elect a member:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the hereinbefore- recited power and authority, doth hereby appoint ROBERT A. LAW to be a member of the Thames Harbour Board as a representative of the electors of the County of Thames, to fill the vacancy caused by the before-mentioned failure to elect.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-third day of May, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen. G. W. RUSSELL, Minister of Marine.
Approving the Fund of the New Zealand Branch of the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John under the War Contributions Validation Act, 1914 (No. 2). LIVERPOOL, Governor. WHEREAS by section two of the War Contributions Validation Act, 1914 (No. 2), (hereinafter referred to as “the said Act”), it is enacted as follows :— Contributions, whether in money or kind, may be made by any local authority or body of persons, whether corporate or unincorporate, other than private trustees under a settlement or will,— (a.) For the relief of distress occasioned by the war in which His Majesty is at present engaged, whether such distress exists in New Zealand or elsewhere in the British Dominions, or in any country allied to His Majesty ;
(b.) For any patriotic objects approved for the purposes of this Act by the Governor : Provided that every such contribution is paid either— (i.) Into a public fund established by the Government, or by any local authority, for the purposes of such relief of distress, or patriotic objects ; or (ii.) Into a fund established by persons other than the Government or a local authority, where such fund and the conditions of control and expenditure thereof are approved for the purpose of this Act by the Governor :
And whereas the New Zealand Branch of the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John in New Zealand have formed themselves into an association known as the New Zealand Branch of the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John, for the following purposes, namely, — (a.) To supply hospitals, hospital ships, ambulances, clothing comforts, &c., for the sick and wounded in time of war, and to generally supplement the hospitals, medical stores, and equipment for the medical services of the army and navy ;
(b.) To contribute aid to the sick and wounded irrespective of nationality, even though British forces are not engaged ;
(c.) To enrol men and women who are qualified by having obtained certificates in first aid and home nursing into voluntary aid detachment for home service ;
(d.) To render assistance in the case of any great public disaster, calamity, or need, subject to the approval of the Council, or (in case of emergency) of the president, or (in the case of local emergency) of the Chairman of the centre or subcentre :
And whereas the association has established a fund for the promotion of the objects hereinbefore expressed, and has submitted the said fund, and the conditions of control and the expenditure thereof, for approval, as required in the herein- before-quoted provisions of the said Act :
Now, therefore, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby approve for the purposes of the said Act—
