Addressing Correspondence.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this twenty-first day of May, 1917.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE SIR JAMES ALLEN, K.C.B., PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the seventeenth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and ten, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the eighteenth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and ten, regulations were made under the authority of the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908 (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), inter alia, prescribing the conditions under which private boxes are held, and for the addressing and delivery of correspondence: And whereas it is desirable to amend such regulations in the manner herein set forth:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon him by the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities in that behalf enabling him, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby revoke the regulation numbered six under the heading “Private Boxes and Call Boxes and Private Bags,” and the regulation numbered sixteen under the heading “Addressing Correspondence,” in the Schedule to the above-recited Order in Council, and in lieu thereof doth make the regulations set forth in the Schedule hereto; and doth declare that the regulations hereby made shall form part of and be read together with the regulations first herein mentioned, and shall take effect on the date of the publication of this Order in Council in the New Zealand Gazette.

SCHEDULE.

PRIVATE BOXES AND CALL BOXES AND PRIVATE BAGS.

  1. LETTERS directed to any person or firm renting a private box, and letters directed to the care of the box-holder, shall, if the number of the box is included in the address, be deposited in the box, unless written notice is given to the contrary by the addressee. The registered and unpaid correspondence addressed to a private box must be retained by the delivery-clerk, and the box-holder informed by means of cards placed in the box.

ADDRESSING CORRESPONDENCE.

  1. In the case of a letter addressed to a person resident within the area of a letter-carrier’s delivery the Department shall not be responsible for the delivery of such letter by letter-carrier unless the name of the street and the number of the house are included in the address. If the addressee is a private-box holder, the number of the box must always be given in the address if it is desired that the letter be delivered to the private box.

Arrangements for taking Poll respecting Proposed Borough of Shannon, County of Horowhenua.

At the Government House at Wellington, this twenty-eighth day of May, 1917.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act, 1913, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby direct that a poll shall be taken on the proposal that the area described in the Schedule hereto may be constituted a borough under the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908; and, further, doth hereby make the following appointments and arrangements for the purpose of taking the said poll:—

  1. Philip Wharton Goldsmith, of Levin, to be the Returning Officer for the purpose of taking the said poll, and also to be the person authorized to prepare a voters roll of the persons entitled to vote at the said poll.

  2. The voters roll prepared and signed by the said Philip Wharton Goldsmith shall be the voters roll to be used at the said poll.

  3. Each person on such roll shall have and may exercise one vote, and no more.

  4. The said poll shall be taken on Wednesday, the thirteenth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, and shall close at seven o’clock in the afternoon of that day.

  5. Except as herein provided, the said poll shall be taken as nearly as may be in the manner provided by the Local Elections and Polls Act, 1908, and the Returning Officer hereby appointed shall be deemed to be a Returning Officer appointed for the purposes of that Act.

SCHEDULE.

AREA PROPOSED TO BE CONSTITUTED THE BOROUGH OF SHANNON.

ALL that area in the Wellington Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on the north-eastern side of Johnston Street distant 2500 links from George Street; thence along a right line bearing 47° 37′, distance 1569·7 links, to a public road, across that road, and along its northern side to the westernmost corner of Section 635; thence along a right line bearing 123° 14′ 35″, distance 12362·7 links, bearing 223°, distance 7161·3 links, bearing 303° 14′ 35″, distance 10995·6 links, bearing 317° 37′, distance 796·8 links, bearing 47° 37′, distance 4882·8 links, to Johnston Street, across that street, and along its northern side, distance 1600 links, to the place of commencement.

Appointing Members of Assessment Court under the Valuation of Land Act, 1908.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Wellington, this twenty-eighth day of May, 1917.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in him by the Valuation of Land Act, 1909, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby appoint the persons mentioned in the Schedule hereto to be members of the Assessment Court for the special districts set opposite their names.

WHEREAS, in pursuance of section fourteen of the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act, 1913, a petition was presented to the Governor, praying that part of the One Tree Hill Road District in the County of Eden should be excluded from the said county and included in the Borough of Onehunga:
