Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Selection by Discharged Soldiers on Renewable Lease.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto, which have been set apart for selection by discharged soldiers, shall be open for selection by discharged soldiers on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-fifth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and section one hundred and thirty-five of of the Land Act, 1908, as they contain or are supposed to contain, metal, mineral, or valuable stone.

SCHEDULE.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—WAITOMO COUNTY.—PIRONGIA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Second-class Land.

SECTION 9, Block XIII: Area, 604 acres; capital value, £910; half-yearly rent, £18 4s.

Section 10, Block XIII: Area, 513 acres 1 rood 24 perches; capital value, £900; half-yearly rent, £18.

Altitude, 300 ft. to 1,500 ft. above sea-level. Broken country, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising tawa, rimu, rata, tawhero, rewarewa, &c., with heavy undergrowth of mahoe, makomako, supplejack, &c. Soil of medium quality, on volcanic formation; well watered by small streams. Distant about ten to fourteen miles from Otorohanga by formed dray-road. Section 10 is about three miles from Te Rauamoa Post-office and school.

SECTION 11, Block XIII: Area, 605 acres; capital value, £1,210; half-yearly rent, £24 4s.

Section 12, Block XIII: Area, 622 acres; capital value, £1,240; half-yearly rent, £24 16s.

Altitude, 400 ft. to 1,500 ft. above sea-level. Fairly broken country, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising rata, rimu, miro, tawa, kohekohe, &c., with moderate undergrowth of punga, supplejack, mahoe, &c. Soil of medium quality, on volcanic formation; well watered by small streams. Distant about fourteen miles and a half from Otorohanga by formed dray-road, and three miles from Te Rauamoa Post-office and school.

Waitomo County.—Pirongia Survey District.

Section 11, Block XIV: Area, 411 acres 0 roods 32 perches; capital value, £930; half-yearly rent, £18 12s.

Altitude, 300 ft. to 1,500 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken country, about 30 acres covered with manuka scrub, balance heavy mixed forest comprising tawa, rata, rimu, kohekohe, tawhero, miro, &c., with heavy undergrowth of mahoe, makomako, supplejack, &c. Soil of medium quality, on volcanic formation; well watered by small streams. Distant about thirteen miles from Otorohanga, twelve miles of which is by formed road.

Section 12, Block XIV: Area, 445 acres 2 roods 16 perches; capital value, £890; half-yearly rent, £17 16s.

Altitude, 300 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken country, about 70 acres covered with fern and tutu, balance heavy mixed forest comprising tawa, kohekohe, tawhero, rimu, rata, &c., with heavy undergrowth of mahoe, makomako, konini, supplejack, &c. Soil of medium quality, on volcanic formation; well watered by small streams. Distant about twenty-four miles from Te Awamutu, via Pirongia, about twenty-two miles of which is formed dray-road, balance unformed.

Section 13, Block XIV: Area, 425 acres 3 roods; capital value, £850; half-yearly rent, £17.

Altitude, 250 ft. to 750 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken land, about 60 acres fern, manuka, and tutu country, balance heavy mixed forest comprising tawa, rimu, rata, tawhero, kohekohe, &c., with heavy undergrowth of mahoe, konini, supplejack, makomako, &c. Soil of medium quality, on volcanic formation; well watered by streams. Distant about fourteen miles from Otorohanga—twelve miles and a half by formed dray-road, balance unformed; or about twenty-four miles from Te Awamutu, twenty-two miles of which is by formed dray-road, balance unformed.

Section 14, Block XIV: Area, 338 acres 2 roods; capital value, £760; half-yearly rent, £15 4s.

Altitude, 250 ft. to 750 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to slightly broken country, about 150 acres mixed forest comprising tawa, rata, rimu, kohekohe, &c., with heavy undergrowth of mahoe, makomako, supplejack, konini, &c.; balance fern, tutu, and manuka. A fair portion of the open country is ploughable. Soil of medium quality, on volcanic formation; well watered by small streams. Distant about twenty-three miles from Te Awamutu — twenty-two miles formed dray-road, balance unformed.

Section 15, Block XIV: Area, 331 acres 1 rood 24 perches; capital value, £500; half-yearly rent, £10.

Altitude, 250 ft. to 850 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to slightly broken land, about 50 acres mixed forest comprising tawa, rewarewa, rata, rimu, tawhero, &c., with heavy undergrowth of makomako, mahoe, konini, supplejack, &c. Soil of medium quality, on volcanic formation; well watered by small streams. Distant about twenty-three miles from Te Awamutu, twenty-two miles of which is by formed dray-road, balance unformed.

FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Otamatea County.—Tokatoka Survey District.

SECTION 75, Block XI: Area, 73 acres 2 roods 5·9 perches; capital value, £910; half-yearly rent, £18 4s.

Altitude, about 5 ft. above sea-level. Level land, covered with stumps and heads of worked-out kahikatea forest, and a little raupo and cabbage-trees. Rich alluvial soil, on marine-deposit formation; not watered by streams, but water can be obtained by boring artesian wells. Distant about three miles and a half to four miles from Naumai Village.
