Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.
Wellington, 25th April, 1917.
THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Council of the County of Waitomo, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

WAITOMO COUNTY COUNCIL.
Result of a Poll on a Proposal to raise a Loan.
PURSUANT to the provisions of section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the rate-payers of the Paemako Special-rating Area in the Paemako Riding of the Waitomo County was taken on the 28th day of February, 1917, on a proposal of the Waitomo County Council to borrow the sum of £1,300 for the purpose of re-forming, culverting, and metalling the Te Kuiti – Awakino Road, in conjunction with the Awakino County, commencing at Piopio and continuing on to the Mangaotaki Bridge on the Te Kuiti – Awakino Road, and also to provide maintenance of same for a period of, say, five years.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 35. The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 13. I therefore declare the proposal was carried.

Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.—Joint Special Loan under Part II.
NOTICE is hereby given that each of the local authorities named in the Schedule hereunder (1) has taken all the steps required to be taken under the above-named Act prior to the raising of a special loan of the amount set opposite the name of such local authority in the said Schedule, and (2) has passed a resolution as required by Part II of the above-named Act for the raising of a joint special loan of the amount of £10,000 in union with the other said local authority, and (3) has complied with all other conditions prescribed in the case of a joint special loan by the above-mentioned Act, and (4) has named the Waitomo County Council to be the agent of the other said local authority for the purpose of the joint special loan and to be the principal local authority as defined in Part II of the said Act.

Revocation of Prohibition under War Regulations Act.—Wollenberger and Co., Chicago.
WHEREAS by notice dated the 4th day of August, 1916, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 10th day of August, 1916, the Postmaster-General did order that no postal packet or telegram addressed to or intended for any of the firms named in the Schedule thereto should be forwarded or delivered by the Post Office or transmitted by telegraph respectively: And whereas it is now considered advisable to remove from the said Schedule the name of the company set out in the Schedule hereto:
Now, therefore, I, William Donald Stuart MacDonald, the Acting Postmaster-General of New Zealand, do hereby, in pursuance of clause 3 of the regulations made on the 17th day of December, 1914, under the War Regulations Act, 1914, revoke the said notice of the 4th day of August, 1916, in so far as it relates to the company described in the Schedule hereto.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Chemists’ Shops in the Borough of Oamaru, under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops within the Borough of Oamaru, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; 9.30 p.m. on Saturdays; with the following exceptions—(a) shops may reopen 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays, the statutory closing-day, for the purpose only of supplying medicines and surgical appliances; (b) the working-night preceding Christmas Day and the working-night preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; (c) the working-night preceding any statutory or proclaimed holiday, when the closing-hour shall be 9.30 p.m.:
And whereas the Oamaru Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops within the Borough of Oamaru:
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 30th day of April, 1917, all chemists’ shops in the Borough of Oamaru shall be closed at 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and 9.30 p.m. on Saturdays; with the following exceptions—(a) the working-night preceding Christmas Day and the working-night preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; the working-night preceding any statutory or proclaimed holiday, when the closing-hour shall be 9.30 p.m.
Pursuant to subsection (4) of the said section and to subsection (c) of section 18 of the said Act, nothing in this notice shall permit any such shop to remain open after the hour of 1 p.m. on the day observed as the weekly half-holiday except for the sale of medicines and surgical appliances that are urgently required; provided that such shops may, pursuant to subsection (d) of the said section 18, reopen on the day observed as the weekly half-holiday at 7 p.m. only for the sale of medicines and surgical appliances, and in such case the closing-hour shall be 8 p.m.
The notice gazetted on the 30th day of March, 1905, is hereby cancelled.

NOTICE.—THOMAS JOHN LEY, Esquire, of Sydney, New South Wales, a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, has this day been appointed by His Honour the Chief Justice a Commissioner of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in New South Wales under the 47th section of the Judicature Act, 1908, for the purpose of administering and taking all such oaths, affidavits, and affirmations as in the said section mentioned.

Approval of Fees for Licensing of Vehicles fixed by By-laws.—Rotorua County Council.
