Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under the Government Railways Act, 1908, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 23rd day of April, 1917.
PART I.—PASSENGERS.
GENERAL FARES AND REGULATIONS.
CANCEL—
Single tickets for distances over twenty miles are available for one month.
Return tickets for distances over ten miles are available for return for three calendar months.
INSERT—
Single tickets for distances over twenty miles are available for three days from date of issue.
Return tickets for distances over ten miles are available for return for three days from date of issue.
Inter-Island tickets, both single and return, are available for four days from date of issue.
Return tickets will not be issued for distances over one hundred miles.

(24.) Single Commutation Tickets.

(25.) Family Commutation Tickets.

INSERT— Weekly Twelve-trip Tickets.
Weekly twelve-trip tickets are issued for distances not exceeding twenty-five miles. They are available for use only between the stations specified thereon, and will be issued only to persons resident in the neighbourhood of the issuing station and for use by the purchaser when travelling second class only.
They will expire on Saturday of the week in which issued, and are limited to one outward and one homeward trip per day. They are not available for break of journey nor for use on Sundays. No reduction in charge will be made for children. Holders of weekly twelve-trip tickets will be charged the full ordinary first-class fare when found travelling in first-class carriages.
The portions of a ticket are available for use only on the day of the week named thereon, provided such portions are used on the specified days and during the week for which the ticket is available. Portions not so used are not available for use at any other time.
The tickets are not transferable, and will be charged as follows :—

LOCAL FARES AND REGULATIONS.
Suburban Fares (Page 21).
CANCEL—
Return tickets on suburban lines for distances of ten miles and under are available for return up to and including the day after issue or from Saturday till the following Monday. For distances over ten miles, for one month from date of issue.
INSERT—
Return tickets on suburban lines are available for return up to and including the day after issue or from Saturday till the following Monday.
North Island Main Line and Branches.
Cancel fares and regulation in re Hot Lakes District, including Round-trip Tickets.
Westport Section.
Under the heading “season tickets” cancel single commutation tickets; family commutation tickets; and workers’ commutation tickets, twelve-trip.
Insert “Weekly twelve-trip tickets, 1s.”
Picton Section.
(Through Booking between Wellington and Blenheim via Picton.)
Cancel “Return tickets will be available for return for three months from date of issue,” and insert “Return tickets will be available for return for three days from date of issue.”
Oamaru to Dunedin.
Special fares on Tuesdays and Fridays: Cancel fares and regulation.
Hanmer Plains Hot Springs.
Cancel return excursion fares and regulation for the through journey by rail and motor to Hanmer Plains.
Through Booking by Rail and Steamer to Queenstown.
Cancel fares and regulation.
Cold Lakes and the Glacial District of Otago.
Cancel fares and regulation.
Round-trip Tours through Central Otago.
Cancel fares and regulation.
PART II.—LUGGAGE, PARCELS, HORSES, ETC.
RACEHORSES.
Cancel regulation, and insert—
Racehorses travelling to and from race meetings by other than express and mail trains will be charged as follows:—
To and from the races, ordinary rates; except in cases where a separate box is insisted on by the owner, when rate and a half will be charged for the journeys made.
Racehorses conveyed in U.G. trucks by express or mail trains must in every case be charged at the full U.G. rates when going to and returning from race meetings.
HUNTERS, POLO PONIES, AND VOLUNTEERS’ HORSES.
Cancel regulation.
Dogs.
Hounds, the Property of Hunt Clubs.
Cancel regulation.
