These sections are subdivisions of the Downs Block of Hawkduun Station, and are situated close to St. Bathan’s, which is a mining township in Central Otago. Access is from two railway-stations on the Otago Central line—viz., Oturuhua and Lauder. The distance from Oturuhua is from nine to fourteen miles; that from Lauder is from nine to seventeen miles. There are formed roads from both places. The sections comprise undulating and ridgy land intersected by gullies. The greater part of nearly every section is ploughable. The soil is a black loam, good in places and light in places, on a clay, shingle, and sand formation. Generally speaking, the land is not well watered, but water might be obtained by sinking. The altitude is from 1,600 ft. to 2,200 ft. above sea-level.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this thirtieth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen.
