Notice respecting Proposed Borough of Whakatane.

Department of Internal Affairs,
Wellington, 9th January, 1917.

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act, 1913, it is hereby notified that a petition, in accordance with regulations, signed by not less than one-fifth of the electors of the area described in the Schedule hereto, has been presented to His Excellency the Governor, praying that the said area may be constituted a borough under the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, by name the Borough of Whakatane. All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions against the proposed constitution within one month from the first publication of this notice. Such objections or petitions are to be addressed and forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

PROPOSED BOROUGH OF WHAKATANE.

ALL that area in the Auckland Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on high-water mark of the Whakatane River in line with the northern boundary of Section No. 273, Waimana Parish; thence along a right line to and along the northern boundary of that section to its north-eastern corner; thence along the western boundary of Small Grazing-run No. 1 to the Waiewe Stream; thence south-easterly along that stream for a distance of 5 chains; thence southerly along a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from the eastern side of the Whakatane-Taneatua Road to Section No. 245A, Waimana Parish; thence along the north-eastern boundary of that section to its easternmost corner; thence along the south-eastern and south-western boundaries of the said section to a point 5 chains distant from the Whakatane-Taneatua Road; thence along a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from that road to the main road to Opotiki; thence along the northern side of that road to and across the said Whakatane-Taneatua Road; thence along the western side of the last-mentioned road to the south-eastern corner of Section No. 261; thence along the southern boundary of Sections Nos. 261 and 233, Waimana Parish, and across a road to a point on the eastern boundary of Section No. 8, distant 5 chains from the north-eastern corner of that section; thence along a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from the northern boundary of the said Section No. 8 to the road forming its western boundary; thence along the eastern side of the road forming the western boundaries of Sections Nos. 8, 226, 225, 6A, 5, and 4 to and across Landing Road; thence along the northern side of that road, and that side produced to high-water mark of the Whakatane River; and thence along high water mark of that river to the place of commencement.

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on the southern side of Woodham Road in line with the eastern side of Westerra Street, thence across Woodham Road, along the eastern side of Westerra Street and its production to the Avon River, along the right bank of that river and its estuary to the Borough of Woolston, along the north-eastern boundary of that borough to the City of Christchurch, and along the boundary of that city to the place of commencement.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Waitara, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

BOROUGH OF WAITARA.

Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Waitara taken on the 22nd day of December, 1916, on the proposal of the Waitara Borough Council to borrow the sum of £8,000 for the purpose of acquiring the right or concession at present held and enjoyed by William Andrew from the borough to supply electric light and power, and also the electric-light works and equipment connected therewith, and for all other works and purposes relative thereto, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 167, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 19; total, 186.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Dated at Waitara this 22nd day of December, 1916.

BOROUGH OF NORTHCOTE.

Notice of Result of Poll.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Northcote taken on the 20th day of December, 1916, on the proposal of the Northcote Borough Council to borrow the sum of £200 for the purpose of assisting towards the cost of the erection of a technical and manual training school, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 34, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 16.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Dated this 21st day of December, 1916.

BOROUGH OF NORTHCOTE.

Notice of Result of Poll.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Northcote taken on the 20th day of December, 1916, on the proposal of the Northcote Borough Council to borrow the sum of £1,800 for general public purposes, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 30; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 19; informal votes, 1.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
