Yushima Lighthouse.
Position.—Lat. 32° 36′ 15″ N., and long. 130° 19′ 37″ E. (according to the Japanese Admiralty Chart No. 169).
Description.—Circular concrete tower, painted white.
Height of Light.—32 shaku above the base, 128 shaku above the water.
Character of Light.—Fifth order, acetylene gas occulating white, light 3 seconds, eclipse 2 seconds.
Illuminated Arc.—An arc 267°, from N. 20° W., through N., E., and S. to S. 67° W. (magnetic bearings taken from seaward).
Power.—1,800 candles.
Visible Distance.—17½ nautical miles in clear night.
SHIMONOSEKI STRAIT.
Notice is hereby given that Ganryu Jima lighted buoy on S.E. off S. end of Genryu Jima, Shimonoseki Strait, has been removed and renamed as follows :—
Mitsu Se Lighted Buoy.
Position.—N.E. of Mitu Se, Shimonoseki Strait.
Depth of Water.—About 7 fathoms at L.W.S.T.
Magnetic Bearings taken from the Buoy.—The conspicuous pine-tree on Hiyori Yama, N. 6° 25′ W.; Kojo Yama, N. 58° 5′ E.; Kasagashira Yama, S. 49° 10′ E.
Notice is hereby given that Koshiki Se north-east lighted buoy on N.E. of Koshiki Se, Shimonoseki Strait, has been permanently withdrawn.
Notice is hereby given that the following lighted buoy has been moored on Mutsuredashi, west entrance to Shimonoseki Strait :—
Mutsuredashi Lighted Buoy.
Description.—Iron frustum of cone, painted red, surmounted by a lattice-work supporting a lantern.
Height of Light.—10 shaku above the water.
Character of Light.—Pintsch gas, fixed red.
Illuminated Arc.—The whole horizon.
Visible Distance.—4 nautical miles in clear night.
Depth of Water.—About 5½ fathoms at L.W.S.T.
Magnetic Bearings taken from the Buoy.—The chimney of Quarantine Station at Hikoshima, N. 7° 20′ E.; the large chimney of Dairi Sugar-refinery, N. 86° 20′ E.; the summit of Kirigatani Yama, S. 49° 50′ E.
Notice is hereby given that the character, candle-power, and visibility of the light of Manaita beacon light, on west entrance to Shimonoseki Strait, have been changed as follows :—
Manaita Beacon Light.
Character of Light.—Fixed green.
Power.—25 candles.
Visible Distance.—6 nautical miles in clear night.
CROWN LANDS NOTICES.
Land in Otago Land District forfeited.

NOTICE is hereby given that the lease of the under-mentioned land having been declared forfeited by resolution of the Otago Land Board, the said land has thereby reverted to the Crown under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Reserves in Nelson Land District for Lease by Public Auction.

NOTICE is hereby given that the reserves described in the Schedule hereto will be offered for lease by public auction at the local Lands and Survey Office, Westport, at 11 o’clock a.m. on Wednesday, 7th February, 1917, under the provisions of the Westland and Nelson Coalfields Administration Act, 1877, and amendments.
SCHEDULE.
NELSON LAND DISTRICT.—WESTPORT COLLIERY RESERVE.—
BULLER COUNTY.—TOWN OF WESTPORT.
SECTIONS 218 and 218A: Area, 3 roods 6 perches; upset yearly rent, £3 5s.
Section 219: Area, 1 rood 12 perches; upset yearly rent, £1 12s. 6d.
The sections are situated in the Town of Westport, and are situated about half a mile from the post-office.
Sections 218 and 218A are weighted with £300, valuation for improvements as follows: Dwelling, seven rooms (uncompleted), with usual outbuildings.
Section 219 is weighted with £100, valuation for improvements as follows: Two-roomed dwelling, iron shed, &c.
ABSTRACT OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF LEASE.

The lease shall be for a term of forty-two years, without right of renewal.

No compensation for improvements will be allowed, but on expiry of lease the new lease offered for disposal by public competition will be subject to payment by the incoming tenant of valuation for improvements; failing disposal, the land and improvements revert to the Crown without compensation.

Possession will be given on the day of sale.

Rent shall be payable half-yearly, in advance, on the 1st day of January and July in each year.

The lessee will have no right to sublet, transfer, mortgage, subdivide, or otherwise dispose of the land comprised in the lease without consent.

The lessee shall prevent the growth and spread of gorse, broom, and sweetbrier on the land comprised in the lease; and he shall with all reasonable despatch remove, or cause to be removed, all gorse, sweetbrier, broom, or other noxious weeds or plants as may be directed by the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

The lease will be liable to forfeiture in case the lessee shall fail to fulfil any of the conditions of the said lease within thirty days after the date on which the same ought to be fulfilled.
Rent at the rate offered for the period from date of sale to 31st December, 1917, and £1 1s. lease fee, must be paid on the fall of the hammer, together with the value of the improvements.
The reserves are described for general information of intending bidders, who are recommended, nevertheless, to make a personal inspection, as the Department is not responsible for the absolute accuracy of any description.

NOTICE is hereby given that the education reserves described in the Schedule hereto will be offered for lease by public auction for terms of twenty-one years, with perpetual rights of renewal for successive terms of twenty-one years, at the District Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, at 11 o’clock a.m. on Thursday, 22nd February, 1917, under the provisions of the Education Reserves Act, 1908, and amendments, and the Public Bodies’ Leases Act, 1908.
