The Finance Act, 1916.—Income-tax payable.

Land and Income Tax Office,
Wellington, 27th February, 1917.

BY Order in Council made and issued by His Excellency the Governor in Council on the 16th day of August, 1916, under the authority of the above Act, it was determined that the respective duties by way of additional income-tax and excess-profits duty leviable under sections 5 and 9 respectively of the said Act should be paid in one sum on Thursday, the 1st day of March, 1917, at the office of the Commissioner of Taxes, Government Buildings, Wellington; and, in accordance with such Order in Council, I hereby give notice that the said duties will be payable accordingly.

Government Railways Superannuation Fund.—Election for Scrutineers under the Government Railways Superannuation Fund Act, 1902.

ONLY two nominations having been received for appointment as Scrutineers in the election of elective members of the Government Railways Superannuation Fund Board, as provided in the regulations under the Government Railways Superannuation Fund Act, 1902, I hereby declare the nominees,

Applications invited for the Position of Manager, Arataki Horticultural Station, Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 5th March, 1917, for the position of Manager, Arataki Horticultural Station, near Havelock, Hawke’s Bay.

  1. Applications (to be made on P.S.C. Form 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices) must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  2. Applicants must have—
    (a.) Experience in the control, management, and direction of farm labour :
    (b.) A thorough practical experience of orchard work, with a knowledge of varieties and their commercial values for export and home consumption :
    (c.) A knowledge of grape-vines, their culture, propagation, grafting to and selection of Phylloxera-resistant stocks, pruning, and general nursery work connected therewith :
    (d.) A practical knowledge of vegetable and flower garden work :
    (e.) A general knowledge of farming as regards field crops and live-stock :
    (f.) Ability to impart information to resident learners, visiting orchardists, and gardeners, conduct farm correspondence, prepare reports, and keep accurate accounts :
    (g.) Ability to conduct experimental work in all branches of horticulture and make correct records of same :
    (h.) Familiarity with New Zealand climatic and soil conditions.

  3. The successful applicant would be provided with a house, for which an annual rental at the rate of 10 per cent. of his salary would be charged.

The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

The position will be graded in the General Division. Salary £220, maximum £250, per annum.
