JAPAN.
WEST COAST.—SHIMONOSEKI STRAIT.—MATSUREDESHI.—
LIGHT-BOUY ESTABLISHED.

A gas-buoy, painted red and showing, 10 ft. above the
water, a fixed red light, visible 4 miles, has been established
on Matsuredeshi, in 5½ fathoms at low-water spring tides, on
the bearings—
Chimney at Quarantine Station, Hikoshima 2° 20′
Large chimney at Dairi Sugar Refinery 81° 20′
Summit of Kirigatani Yama 125° 10′

MANAITA BEACON LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC CHANGED.
The characteristic of Manaita Beacon light has been
changed to fixed green, of 25 candle-power, visible 6 miles.
Approx. position: Lat. 33° 54′ 50″ N., long. 130° 54′ 10″ E.

PANAMA CANAL.
LIGHTS EXTINGUISHED IN BRITISH WEST INDIES.

  1. Advice has been received from the British Legation,
    Panama, that lighthouses and navigation lights have been
    extinguished in Carlisle Bay, Needhams Point, South Point,
    Barbados; Castries, St. Lucia; St. George’s, Grenada; all
    Jamaica harbour lights; Nassau; Guadeloupe; and St.
    John’s, Antigua.

  2. The British Legation, Panama, also advises that the
    Governor of Barbados wishes it to be known that vessels
    should not enter Carlisle Bay at night.

SPAR BUOY AT TORO POINT COVE REPLACED BY GAS-BOUY.

  1. On 11th December, 1916, a gas-buoy was established
    marking the southern extremity of a reef near Toro Point
    Cove. This buoy has a pyramidal superstructure painted
    black, and exhibits an occulting white light with the following
    characteristic: 1 second dark, 1 second light; focal plane
    10 ft.

  2. The 18 ft. spar buoy at the entrance to Toro Point
    Cove, the establishment of which was announced in Circular
    No. 643–19, Notice to Mariners, of 24th February, 1916, has
    been discontinued.

WESTPORT HARBOUR.—REMOVAL OF RED LIGHT AT DOWN-
STREAM END OF COAL STAITHS.

THE Westport Harbour Board has notified that the red
light at downstream end of coal staiths is being removed, and will not be shown after the night of 18th March, 1917.

resolution of the Taranaki Land Board, the said land has

Land Act, 1908.
